I recently ordered MGS from amazon.com and it'll be here either tomorrow or the day after :D I'm uber hyped over it! I've never played the game (more or less the series of games) before and after what Cecil and Lewi told me, it sounds like one of the coolest games Ever. Stealthiness, puzzles, an insane last badguy, and a main character with personality! Not to mention... THE BOX! Why did I miss this?

So here's a thread for the series.

In the beginning, I heard nothing about the series. My bro had it, but that was it... From the cover it looked like any other stealthy shooter killing game that he liked playing. Then Lewi... Oh Lewi and his comic. Lewi and his rabid spazzing over how Snake would be in an upcoming WII game. Lewi and his fettish with boxes. You can guess who I learned more over the game from. :P And I'm glad I did, I loved hearing about it. My past fears of no enjoyance out of it quickly faded into a deep interest. And it didn't end there.

A few weeks after Lewi told me everything he possibly could about the MGS series, a GameMakers episode on G4 aired over the entire game series and it's maker. Along with this was a load of MGS and MGA reviews out of X-play. My past curiosity over the games became overwhelmed with the urge to buy.

This is what brought me to amazon.com. I normally don't go there, fact I've never purchased there before. But while it was randomly up, I did a search and found, "MGS - Greatest Hits: ps1" for as low as 10 bucks. Course, I paid 15 to make sure I got a used, mostly new game from a supplier that had a pretty spiffy rating. And now it's coming.

Aside from talking about the MetalGearSolid 1 for the PS2 without ruining everything for me, tell me about the games beyond it. What other MGS games would absolutely rule my world, what should I meh over and not waste my money on, what's your fav game from the series? And other random, general talk over the game. =]

Any of the MGS games are sure to please. MGS2 is uber odd in plot at points, but it is still amazing. MGS3 brings a new dimension to it all with camoflague and an absolute requirement for stealth... I would say that a person could play all three and enjoy them.

I think the only one you could feasibly skip is Metal gear Solid 2. And even if you skip that 4 will probably not make any sense if you ever play it.

I should say, if you can ever afford to play that monster. >_> That sucker's gonna be 3424234324 bucks.

BUT ANYWAY.

I say you can skip 2 simply because at the current point, it doesn't bridge aside to anything. You can play MGS3 without having even touched MGS2. MGS2 by the way, is 5 dollars in the Gamestop and EB bargain bin.

MGS2 wasn't a bad game, in fact, it probably did some more awesome things with it's stealth engine that MGS3 or 1 did. Up until a certain point, I was *greatly* impressed with MGS2. However as you play along, MGS2's plot gets so convoluted that it just stops making sense. At all. In fact, I would have respected Kojima a lot more if he just said outright "NUKES ARE BAD." and had that be said by every character in the game up till the ending.

When I beat the game I had to choose between finishing watching the ending and buying Xenogears.

I bought Xenogears. :X

But that aside. Another nasty problem with it is it's Bishi-protagonist. In Japan, Raiden is the shizzle and rightfully so. He's pretty, he's strong, he's fast, he's a keen, mean, lighting machine! He's got this deep scary voice too, as all good bishis should have. If you saw him in the MGS4 trailer, you know he's hardcore ninja.

He's all that in America too, except you half expect him to shout YUUUUUUUUUNAAAAAAAAAAA. Every other sentence. Cause he's probably twice as whiny as Tidus was, and I think they might even have the same voice actor.

What you *need* to play though is: MGS3. If you can get MGS3 Subsistance instead of MGS3: Snake Eater. It comes with a bonus disc with stuff, and the original two canonical Metal Gear games for the MSX translated into english.

Out of all of them, I think I like 3 the best, despite how absolutely freaking insanely hard it is. In MGS1 and 2 you have a radar telling you which way badguys are looking. In MGS3 you have to hope to high heaven that the commies don't see you in your underwear and makeup, as you don't get any of that. I mean, the game takes place in the 60's. O_O

Subsistance uses a new sort of camera style though. So if 3D games that rotate a lot make you sick, you'll need to be careful. Luckily you can turn that option off... which is what I did super well. It makes the game feel... cheap. I dunno why.

Anyway. If you like MGS1 for PS1, you might try MGS:Twin Snakes on the Gamecube. It's essentially a full remake of MGS1. But because it has a special first person look&shoot mode, the game becomes about ten times as easy. XD

Even though two is kinda weak as a game you should play it. Well the weakest link in the series but game play and the MGS style is all there.

MGS3: Subsistence is a must buy, great MGS3 style, that a bit diffrent from the other two. The game carries the theme of survival. I say to get Subsistence and not the first one becaue you also get Metal Gear 1 and 2 for the MSX computer system. They are so bad ass for being such old games. I beat Metal Gear so far and only played a little bit of Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake.

Subsistance 3rd person cam is cool if you ask me, makes the game feel a bit more immersive. And can be toggled back and forth from the classic birds eye on the fly wich is relal cool.

LOL I just found this picture, how did I not ever notice this?
I suprised someone didn't get sued. :P

Don't listen to Ajil6, MGS3 is easy mode compared to the first two. :P In others words its easier that MGS2 and... Well Just as easy as MGS:TTS. XD
