Title: Game Review - WildArms2
Description: Sequil to WildArms =P

KrazyKelli - January 3, 2004 12:15 AM (GMT)
k, I finished WildArms2 earlier today and it's time for me to post a review of it.

Personally, I have mixed feelings over the game. It has many good parts and bad parts to it that need to be talked about. At the end I was left with a happy, excited, heart tingling sensation. But also left with a small disappointment.

First I'll talk about the bad stuff - just to leave you in suspense of the good stuff.

The major bad thing I found to be is the translation on the overall game. It was like a 15 year old chatroom kid that liked using large words wrote the entire thing. I had no big fuss with the use of computer smiley faces. like : - ) . But there were parts that just irked me *like, "Die Tim! Yes, Die for us! You need to die Tim!"*. It didn't bother me at first. However, when they had Kanon - who was a Raw Badass charrie (think Obsidian from the RKRP but with Bionic implants and a hardass solitude bountyhunter reputation) - say, "Wah... Wah... Wah..." I was just shot... What I'm trying to say is that, on sparce occation, the dialogue was slightly hard to read, and the characters didn't sound in character (but only for SMALL parts)

Another bad thing was that the game is Painfully slow at times. I never thought I would ever get to the second CD. And when I did I was wondering when the game was going to end. Fact, I nearly gave up the other day, but gladfully didn't since I was so close to the end. Seriously, if I gave up there and looked at the strat guide to see how close I was to finishing it, I would've shot myself.

The last bad thing, which I believe is my own problem with depression, is that some stuff is never explained. So I was incredibly lost with plot and where to go in the first 1/4th of the game. Towards the 2/4th part of the game I got so lost that I was forced to use a strat guide over the net to get through a few parts. And I never use strat guides. But, once again, that's probably my own prob...

Sick of all this bad stuff? Don't wanna play the game now? HA! Wait for the good stuff. Here it is!

The Animation - It's incredibly good for something made during that time. The 2 opening theme songs made me feel like this was an anime (infact, there Is a WildArms anime out there ^^` ). The characters were made extremely well. Overall, I love how the game was drawn up and pixelated.

The Characters - Not only are they well animated and look fantastic, the characters are seriously with their own seperate creative spiffy personalities. All come from diffy walks of life and the game makes good time pointing this out. While there are 6 main charries, there are Many NPC charries that are also well developed. They seriously didn't halfass the part on making you want to care for the charries. And, with exception of 1 or 2 times of bad translation, nothing is too melodramatic.

The Music - Is also something I extremely liked about the game. None of it put me to sleep, and All of it kept me into the gameplay (when it wasn't slow). The music for the opening and ending themes - along with the music at the end of the first and second CD's - made me 'iiiii' with happiness.. Especially the end stuff! There are points in the game where the music gets you extremely into it, from the happy parts to the extremely sad parts.

The Plot - Though painfully slow at times, the plot starts off confusing and ends Fantastic. It's very deep, and well done. If I play the game a second time I'll rave to everyone about how the plot rules and how you catch so much the second time playing it XD Cause I think that's how the game was made (being that I was mutually lost in the beginning until they explained a few things). When things pick up, they do. Brad's big part in the game (all charries get a big part) ruled all for me and took me by surprise. And, as said below, the ending just blows me away.

The Ending - While parts of the game were slow, the ending completely makes up for it all. There is a HUGE twist in the game that blew me away - along with a few other twists. Once again, the music completely got me into the ending. The fighting - where it's easy during the game - is extremely challenging at the end. There is so much character-buffing action in the end as well, which also made me happy.

Originality - The game is original. Never in my dreams have I played a game where stuff from the 'past' includes both mechanical things and dragons. Mechanical Dragons. It's also more WildWest than fantasy, which is good in it's own special ways! Where can you go wrong XD.

Overall in the game - my fav charries were: #1. Kanon, #2. Irving, and #3. Judecca. XD They all rule to me, Specially Kanon. I seriously wish I got all her fighting levels (I got stuck with VortexCut). I wish there was an anime or game completely based off of her. Fact, I wish they made a WildArms2 anime. XP

So anyway. I'm not gunna rate the game, since that just leads to controversy and pisses people off. But it's extremely better than #3, and I heard from others that the game is better than WildArms1. While it doesn't beat ValkProfile on my list. It extremely reigns over a few other games (and once again, I wont list these to avoid controversy). For those with time on their hands and can run through spots of 'slowplay', I recommend it. ^^

People with Motion Sickness... While it wont make you raving sick like extreme 3d games (Doom, Spyro, KingdomHearts), taking over an hour in the airboat will give a headache and/or make you have to turn off the game. Same with going out on the map with highspeed flying. And if you play the game for over 6 hours straight.. XP. But it's still okay to play. I mean, I got through it ;)

Raguna Megido - January 5, 2004 11:23 AM (GMT)
Nice review (seriously). B) You almost have me wanting to play it again and actually
-finish- it this time. =P
I think I got Marivel(?) and after a bit of flying around, quit
(I think I only had rented the game). I will admit what I did play of it, I -think-
I enjoyed it more than WA3 (also didn't finish it >.< though now that I own it I can).,
but it's been a few years.

And on a side note: Valkyrie Profile.. I wanna play it, but unless I get really lucky,
it'll probably be hard to find (I doubt as hard as my Supa Difficult Suikoden II Quest
of DOOM™). Heard good things about it though, so perhaps I will be lucky (think positive Raguna!) and catch it for a decent price at Funcoland.

Back to WA2..

I still don't remember it's OPs and yes, never finished to hear the ED. n_n;;;;

However before I get back and try it again, have some other games to play/finish
(Persona 2 Eternal Punishment, Vagrant Story, PE:2 and quite a few more).
(O the crack that is getting older games you meant to play but never got when they first came out and thought you'd missed out on. >.> <.< >.> (((Huggles collection))) Mine!Mine!Mine!Mine!Mine! *cough* Too much Nemo? =P).

Hrmmmm.... I guess I'll add WA2 to the "pick it up when I see it" list. n_n;;
