I swear there are far more commercials than there were in the past. .I can't enjoy a good show without a damn commercial break every 5 or less minutes. Specially on Discovery and TLC.

I remember back in the past there was 8 minutes of commercials per show... Then, while watching 'What's On' Someone brought it up. There are now about 15 minutes per show - which is every 30 minutes. So for every hour of show, you get an hour of commercials.

And it's not like the commercials are entertaining. They're showing the same stuff every commercial break.


What are your views on this?

Personally, It think this makes TV suck now. And I'm not as into watching 'specials' and stuff cause I don't wanna waste my quality time on brands of shampoo, cars I wont buy, and other useless shit they keep showing me.

KK, I totally, 100% agree with you on this. Alot of people say I'm crazy when I complain that TV has too many commercials....but it does! Tech TV's X-play has 3 commercial breaks! I dont even know how long they are....but they're too long. 3 commercial breaks in a 30 minute show is just evil. It breaks up the pace, and ruins the show.

Most of the stuff on cable sucks, and it does get worst with all the commercials jammed in. Sports events are heavily commercialized to the point of insanity. I hate it.

Hells, one of the main reason why I love Adult Swim is because they have -1- commercial break during their shows! Thats the way it should be, damn it. Or better yet, just no commercials XD. But that'd be asking for a bit too much from the corporations, now wouldnt it? ^_^;;

I know that I dont really watch that much cable TV....think I only watch Tech TV, Comedy Central, and Cartoon Network. ****** Fox, NBC, ABC, CBS, XYZ, JKL, MNO....all of their shows suck beyond suckness (least in my opinion, dont spear me!). And, as stated above...they put too many damn commercials in their shows.

Of course, all the anime shows I download also have one commercial break. Which is why Japanese Television > American Television....XD.

So yeah....Commercials do suck. But were in the age of corporate masters, so I dont think they'll ever decrease. ******...they'll probably increase over time..they'll figure out how to make us dream commercials in our sleep x_X

XD 3 commercial breaks is nothing.. When Discovery does one of their special shows (like a Dinosaur special) there is a commercial every 5 minutes... up to 5 commercial breaks per 30 minutes..

And yes, it does ruin the shows.. I don't know what the people on tv were thinking... They got enough with their 8 minutes every 30 and their 5 hours of infomercials in the mornings (some have enough more hours of that now)...Why pump up more commercials during the day?

So far, most shows on AnimalPlanet, and CN have been nice to me. Fact, AP has no infomercials XP


XD I remember way back in the day when Disney showed hte entire episode without commercials, then put the 8 minutes at the end of it.

Too ba dthey don't do it like some countries... 20 minute show, 10 minute commercial break. You can watch your show and then do something productive without worrying about missing your next show. When I do watch TV (I usually play games instead) I will have an Xbox magazine or something to read during commercials.. or I'll clean the kitchen a bit or something. Commercials are pretty crappy and all, but they have to make their money somewhere.

I'm one of those people who don't get bothered much by commercials. Why? I simply change the channel when the commercials are being shown. I probably miss about 30 sec - 1 min of the show upon return, but it's better than waiting 3 - 5 min of watching commercials that only have 1 or 2 that interest me.

The times when they do bother me are when all the good channels are showing commercials...then I have nothing to switch to; it's like the end of the world! Well, for a minute or so since most of the commercials have started 3 min before the commercial of the channel I'm watching started.

I hope I didn't confuse too many people with my weird way of watching television. @_@

The main problem I have is seeing the same set of commercials every break. This is a major problem during long sporting events (if you are going to show a molsen ice commercial every break then show a different one!).

doesn't bother me much otherwise but thats just cause i dun watch tv that much anymore. nothing to watch.

I too flip the channel if commercials come on. If the commercials are all on at the same time, I do a bit of reading or something else for a minute. I refuse to watch them....unless I notice an amusing one comes on, like Quizno's or something I'm interested in.

Commercials can be a good from of entertainment but it does get annoyign when you see the same one 50 times a week. Oxygen channel has a problem with this. I too wish that they would follow the adult swim approach. I don't mind waiting during those commercials cause I won't see them again until I forgot what the others were about. I stay a happy gumba. Disney channel was way better when there weren't commercials even if they are mostly disney related. It's like MTV...we come to see videos not specials. We came to see the shows not the commercials.

About a week ago A Few Good Men was on TV. It's a long movie, and as such, every commercial break consisted of 1 to 2 commercials.

It was heaven :)
