Title: starwars vs startrek

Ok this isn't a typical vs thread, as in it's not about whether you like one more than the other. But what if the future turned out like typical sci-fi suggests? When I was thinking of this thread, the idea came to mind because I was thinking about the starships. If we developed space travel, would we do it in a starwars-esque way? Or a startrek-esque way? Like starwars works with some big ships, and small ships as well, whereas startrek works with all big ships.

I've always thought starwars made more sense. There's big ships, but there's 'also' small ships. Fighting in startrek doesn't really make sense, 'cause it just comes down to which starship is stronger. But in starwars, there's alot more to it than just fighting back and forth, since smaller ships in general allow fighting on planets, and other such things, which aren't in startrek. What'da'ya think?

Don;t even get me started. Star Trek: The Next Generation is the best of them all. Nothing is better NOTHING!

go ahead, get started! I have no idea why you would think Star Trek: The Next Generation is the best....How can Anything be cooler than Star Wars!?

anyway, I think the future would be like star trek at first and then diversify and become more like star wars like over time.

I think the same thing Elsie said just because at first the small ships will in all likelyhood be impossible to make work all that well until you can get the ship's components small enough.

Heh.. Bonham, did you even read hte entire first post? ^^`` he said this isn't a 'which is better' thread. But which would be more appliable towards the future and why.

^^` I haven't seen much startrek and I haven't watched starwars in a few years. But I believe the ships will be more like startrek at first (cause all humans think about is 'bigger and kickasser') opposed to starwars - however eventually become more diverse like starwars (as, um, elsie sorta said). Who knows, The Federation would probably be americans trying to rule over everything XD in space. Think, a President Bush of the future =P starting wars with other planets.

And, as said, via ships it'd be more like starwars in the future after the startrek revolusion of ships.

Though I also think that the diversity in planets and the galexy would probably be more like starwars all the way through.

And, um, no ship fighting til the smaller space ships and such are made. ^^` and weapons are upgraded if not more diverse.

Every startrek series except for DS9 takes place on a Federation Starship. That starships roll is to extend the Federations presence through out the gallaxy. Its a exploration/battle ship. Because of this, its missions always involve confronting other large ships or phenomena that would justify sending a ship of its size to investigate. Other ships exist.. but they have nothing to do with the Enterprise so you never see them.

In Voyager however, because they're lost and arent simply followin gtheir mission orders, they run into smaller ships on a regular basis. In fact, the first episode you meet Nelix, who has a personal one man ship.

In DS9, you see small ships on a regular basis. DS9 is a space station, and ehy constantly have 1 - 10 man ships coming through the wormhole. The Defiant is consitered a starship, but it basically just needs a bridge crew to operate it.

So, small ships exist in startrek. You just typically don't see them because theres no need to waste a massive federation starship on dealing with them..

(I was Revan)

True, true, though I'd still expect them to use Star Wars jet resembling designs first.
