Mmmm... This game is TIGHT! I actually don't know what to say, I just want to go play it some more. ^^
This game just has the awsomest blend of, well, everything! It's basically a tactics game (like FFTA, Tactics Ogre, etc), but what's different is, Fire Emblem is better! I think the best part is they take out all the annoyances, and add in cool stuff as well. Err, ok, lemmee explain it. :/
I think the best part is that there is no experience rush. There is no experience curve you need to stay ahead of. There isn't anything inbetween missions like 'random battles' or 'training' that you need. It focuses alot more on strategy with weapon triangles. It's like rock-paper-scissors, Axes beat Lances, which beat Swords, which beat Axes. Same works for magic, wheras Elemental beats Holy, which beats Shaman, which beats Elemental.
I'm pretty sure we all know of that weapon-specializatoin thing in FFTA, which this game has, in a way, but better as well. Characters can hold up to 5 items/weapons. Take for instance the Calvalier, who can use Lances and Swords. Say he uses the Lance more than a Sword, so eventually he get's better with it. So in Fire Emblem the items are intertwined with attacking and abilities to make an easy to understand, stripped down system. Like to cast fire, you would have a fire book item, though unlike FFTA, with constant use you don't get the spell.
There are special weapons also. Like the Lancereaver is an awsome one. What it is, is a sword which bests Lances, but in turn is weak against Axes. And there are weapons of different types and levels. Like what an item is made of determines it's strengths, so a Steel sword is better than an Iron one, but Iron ones are easier to wield. Then there are also special weapons which damage Heavily Armored foes, like a Heavy Spear would.
But really I think where Fire Emblem is so different is the cut-scenes. It doesn't just show the regular sprites sitting there with text bubbles, but it brings up a picture of their shoulders and up when they talk, and moves them around to show what's going on, or if someone leaves or comes back, it's just awsome! The backgrounds are cool also, as well are the animations. I don't get bored waiting for their little attack thing to end to get on with the mission, I either cheer the little guy on or cringe, hoping they don't die. ^^
Characters, they are just so easy to relate with. They seem like real people! It's like how you can ascociate characters in Megatokyo as real people. And every character has a very different, distinct personality, even if they are just shoulders and a head. :P
The plot is quite linear, though. One thing I personally don't like about most Tactics games is that you go around doing things, but have absolutely NO idea why. Or atleast that's what it's like for me. You just walk around the continent doing things. Well it's the same thing in Fire Emblem, it's just that you always know where you are going and what you are doing.
And, oddly enough, I CANNOT play without the music on. I think it's because I get so immersed into the game, that I can't play without the music on or it just isn't the same. That, and when certain people join your group it plays one of the songs on Super Smash Bro's Melee, but in Fire Emblem (the origonal song) it just sounds SO much better. But still, I guess that's why the music is good in SSBM also. ;)
Wohoo! I got through this without making any spoilers, I think. Oh... Wait a second... There's cheese in the game, and MAN does it smell! I'm so glad I got this game. ^^
