Title: Improving AR- What do YOU think should change?

Lewis Daggart - May 25, 2004 05:32 AM (GMT)
Well, the sites on its feet and and, as with most forums, after the initial rush less and less people are posting and even more have diappeared, never to return.

Now that it's been up and running for a while though, I'd like to see if anyone has suggestions on what we can do to make the site better. The people of a forum are ultimately what allows it to exist, even more so when there are RPs that need fresh blood to keep them alive. So, the question is, what can we do to make YOU feel more at home?

One thing thats been mentioned is that the site is too dark, so I'd like to hear what you think about that. I've also heard numerous people mention RP ideas.

This is more than a simple feedback question. I'd like to actively try to make the site better so we can draw more people and keep the ones we have. Feel free to respond with any complaints or suggestions you have to make the site better.

Comeon, I LOVE the color! It gives a nice 'difference' from other forums. An important thing is always keeping things fresh, so they don't get monotinous. And as a multi-forum person, the color fits this place really well.

:/ I'll post more once more is here.

I have my own reasons for not doing the RKRP anymore, but you'll notice I do the OPRP a lot...

As far as the site goes, yes, it's way too dark and depressing. Kinda why all I do is that one rp instead of posting everywhere...

Akisu - May 25, 2004 05:56 AM (GMT)
I should do the rkrp again... I actually just need to get back in the mood for it. ^^; I post else where when I get the chance. I still think there are too many forums on this site. I like the colors, easy on the eyes, but they are a little on the depressing side...

DemonBonham - May 25, 2004 10:46 AM (GMT)
I like the dark boards :-P i originate from them, its just all O.o becuase no one posts. like when I was on Silent Hill Forum there were 2,000 members.... and only like 300 active members. I hate that forum now... anyways, i feel the board just needs more active members. >.> <.< its hard for me to find them becasue, everyone I invite kinda just leave lol.

lilgumba - May 25, 2004 05:59 PM (GMT)
well i don't know if it's a problem or not but i'm not much of an rper. well i should say i'm not into it that i am rping with everybody and their mamas lately. i could step in there but i still feel like i am a bit out of place in there so i don't really go in there. my focus is on posting on the other forums. since most people don't post there a lot i am talking to maybe 1 person or would start developing a conversation with myself. while that could be entertaining it might make me look crazy. ^_^

*in comes the owner: God. With shining lights and... ah, you get hte drift*

`` I see...

*wonders if I should give a comment... before realizing that I'm the owner of the damn place* hmmm...

*So decides to act on it* *writes down 'make new banner' and 'make people post everywhere else in the forums' before walking off*

*God exits stage left*

We need Contraversial forums. :/ I am always thinking of things to post but I know that they'd piss someone off. :/

I think one of the key things we need here on the site is fresh blood so we have something feed off of. :P While it's nice to have all the usual people you can count on being here, after a point, everything seems to stagnate, as it is now. The more new people we can get to show up, and keep interested, the better off the site will be.

On the color issue, I see nothing wrong with it. It's a good combination and also easy to read. If anyone tries to change the forums to something bright and cheery, I'll shoot myself. :P

*tossing out ideas*

I was thinking one of the major problems with deviding things up so much (asin, with so many differnet anime forums) is that there's no place to talk about more than one anime. A little unorthodox, but what if we devided those into, say, most seen anime, least seen, and starting to see. That could tip the scale a little bit on what topics could be about, which might makes things interesting, but there'd probably be problems with this also. Awell, maybe someone can improve upon it. :)

KrazyKelli - May 26, 2004 06:24 AM (GMT)
6 new forums made. 5 anime - filtering out 4 older forums (though thye're still in tact for hte future). And 1 Controversial forum called The Madhouse XP

New AR Banner up and happy. Also less depressing catchphraze.

B) have a nice day

Hello, my name is Haiiro and i'm an old friend to alot of you. I'm sure alot of you are wondering why I haven't been all gun ho about this new fourm, but to tell the truth i'm not to sure myself. I just haven't beem in the mood to do much lately even FFXI is in the slumps for a while now. /em shrugs.

Well as for what we could do to make this site better. Hmm, that is an interestiong question indeed. New people is always a plus as many of you folks have declaired, and I don't think the colors palete should change I love it. I don't this it's depressing at all, it's full of passion! In the language of flowers, Red means determination!

I haven't posted here much and haven't meet many of the "new" people so it's not really my place to say more than that. Good days friends.

Well the colours kinda suits the board's name (at least red), it's not depressing to me and (though that may change) is fairly easy on my eyes. That and it goes rather well with my current (as of this post) avatar. =P
However, I do understand that it could be depressing to some people
or off putting perhaps (hey my humble forum is fairly light coloured and that doesn't really seem to help people come, post and/or stay, but oh well...).
So if possible, what about custom forum colours for the different users?
Someone isn't mad for the red and black colour scheme, they could choose another.. I would say if, -if- this were possible and happened, keeping some colour of red somewhere in the other scheme(s) seems like a good idea (then again not everyone is crazy about red). Maybe for those who know what they're doing, could even submit colour schemes and such themselves. And ones that got the most
postive feedback might get added as choices for people. This would probably include variants of the banner as well, but perhaps not.

New users, especially those that seem like a good match for the board and it's "residents" who do stick around and post often, would probably be a good thing.
But not everyone knows tons of people (or places with people) to pimp the place to who'd actually come (and stay) and be a welcome addition as well.
So getting them here and enough to stay is...an interesting dilema, one I can't hope to answer (veritible ghost town of a board admin that I am =P).
There are tons of boards who talk about anime and manga and such as their main focus, it's about the experiance and the people though that's important, or that something special or different that keeps em coming back (a hook or Pocky-like "crack" substance, if you will). Also the problem comes when there are too many people coming and you have to worry about things like trolls and other not entirely desireable members (who such entities are/would be is mostly up to the Admin(s), Mod(s) and of course to a lesser extent or not the regular members).

RPs, while some enjoy them, some won't join them no matter how good or interesting. Take me, I have RPed in the past (free-form and message board based mostly), but have little to no desire, energy or time to really get involved anymore. So..while they are all well and good, members should be encouraged to join still, but if not post wherever else is most suited to them.
Just saying there should be plenty of regular activity elsewhere going on that people are interested in posting or replying to (this task lies on pretty much everyone, to some extent or another), various topics and spread throughout the board.. The more slow things are, the less some are likely to post (I hardly -ever- start topics of my own, for good reason, so without something to post to which interests me (or at my board, that which somehow interests my small member base and gets people posting, however much or little), I'm unlikely to post too).

I can't think of much else to say currently and I seriously doubt the usefulness of what I did write, oh well.. At least I got around to posting some of my thoughts, eh? =P

Chibi Chichiri - May 31, 2004 06:24 AM (GMT)
RM has a good point about the RPs, KK-kamisama. As cool as they may be, not everyone who joins the site is gonna join them. I think we should put more emphasis on getting people interested enough to join the forum and stay around, before trying to convince them to join the RPs. That way we don't have someone join an RP, then just leave in the middle of all of it because they're bored of the site. ^^

KrazyKelli - May 31, 2004 10:07 PM (GMT)
*pops fist into hand* Yes! You're right. People shouldn't just invite others for rp purposes alone. There are many other parts to AR that need just as much postage. The Anime Forums, The Art Forums, The Random Crappage. XD j/k.. The Random Stuffs. I specially like bringing up the Arcade and Theatre to people I invite that aren't into rping and haven't watched much anime.

As for multi color forum schemes. Me and Lewi tried that a while ago. However, alas, the IF forums supposedly aren't made to have more than 1 CSS coded color scheme per forum. That and I don't have much experience in the CSS coding field. However, a good part of everyone, if not everyone, are pretty much okay with teh red on black and silver on red and... silver on black colorscheme we have now. ^^ So it's all good.

Anyway, good points, good points.. *jots more down in my Godly Notebook*

I am all for downsizing and compressing the forums. It would be a much easier, and user friendly place if such a thing were to take effect. I know for one, it would eliminate much of the unwanted clutter on here. I, for one am all for combining a few threads together.
