Well, I saw King Arthur last wensday (don't worry, I'll see SM2 on sunday) and I have a review for it. For those who respond, if you want to discuss something in spoilerland, either put SPOILER HUGE in your post or make it invisible by putting the [*COLOR=black]spoiler goes here [/color*] code in.
Review
This was more of a so-so movie for me. While it was entertaining, there could've been so much more via plot during the time it takes to watch it. Even so, I'll go over everything without spoiling it more than the back of the dvd box would for any movie in the future. If you've seen Gladiator or Last Samurai, I recommend you see King Arthur, btw.
The Characters
I loved the characters and how they were played. Each of the characters, with disregard to the mindless jobbers during the fight scenes, has an individual personality of their own. And I'm sure if you watched the movie 2 or 3 times you'd know the charries' names by heart (all I remember is lancelot and arthur via name, btw). There's also no 'completely evil' and 'completely good' side, which I happened to like. XD what else is there to add... Hmmm.. I found some of the characters to be cute in a way, but all the main characters aren't bishi's - even if most of them can be easily well liked.
The Plot
Don't worry, not going to spoil anything here. I'm more going to tell you how the plot was handled. It isn't handled like a fantasy, and more as if pure reality. Romans you can TELL are romans, Saxons you can TELL are saxons, Britins you KNOW to be britins... This movie most definately took out the time to make the specific 'bloods' to look their part as accurate to history as they could get it. Everything from how the charries dressed their hair, to how they lived, and how the mounts on the spears that were ridden with looked were accurate. That was pleasing... However - the plot was very one-sided. In terms of plot, there wasn't much of any besides, 'Fight because we have to!' Sure there were subtle plots going on, but the overall story was weak and could easily be proclaimed boring if you watch the movie 10 times in a row. However, if you liked romans and roman-type things, if not knights, then most definately, you wouldn't find this movie boring at all.
Plot Holes
Yes, there were 1 or 2 plot holes I found while watching the movie for the first time. They don't completely destroy the movie, however, and wont ruin anything. Infact, you could easily give an explination for those proclaimed plotholes if you're creative enough.
Music
The music fit the movie almost as identical as the music fit to Last Samurai. You can watch the movie and enjoy the music behind it while watching the movie, but I don't recommend getting the CD cause, um, there's not much to the music on its' own - I believe. To tell the truth, I think the same composers that wrote music for LastSamurai were used to KingArthur. It's basically the same short main tune used countless times with variations of it and some extra tunes on the side. (and please correct me if you think I'm wrong on this).
That's about it. The scenes and camera actions were beautiful, the script was hilarious and fun to hear out, and I overall enjoyed the movie.
Should I rate the movie? No, because that's just an opinion and numbers have less value than balls of kitten snot. Is the movie worth watching? That is entirely up to you and how you made the money to go see the movie. Honestly, money has no worth in itself. So do what you will, I say see the movie and enjoy it. It was a pretty good movie. If you want to skip the theatres and buy the dvd when it comes out next year, fine by me. Er.. that's about it..
^^` hope you enjoyed this review.
I saw King Arthur the other day, and I thought it was an alright movie. It wasnt as good as it could have been though. I do like the fact that it was based off of the "true" story of Arthur and not the fictional tale, but I think there could have been a little more to the story than what there was. It pretty much was one of those movies that kept you in it by giving some half decent dialogue, then a stunning battle sequence, then more dialouge, then more fighting and so on and so forth. I mean it was pretty good movie, but it needed more story imo.
