Title: Final Fantasy 7 Review
Description: Game Curving Future of PlayStation

KrazyKelli - July 20, 2004 08:29 AM (GMT)
Just for the rare few of you who haven't played it. Don't read beyond this first post. Cause I'm not going to have people edit out their spoilers.

I bought my PS1 to buy and play FF7 when it first came out so very long ago.

And Yes! I beat it! Though 1 winged Seph is an Extreme bastard.

Alright. Before you look at Final Fantasy 7 and go, "Bah, I don't want to play it. The graphics suck majorly and it looks dumb. 3 CD's Means Too Long." you are one of many people who miss playing some of the best games out there from the past.

I Agree, the graphics are crap compaired to nowadays with the 3d stuff I get easily sick off of. But the game was a step in the right direction and was pretty cool during the time it first came out. But keep in mind all the good stuff.

The Characters - are extremely unique and all with their own sevier personalities and such. If I come into an art forum and put down a picture of Tifa, Sephiroth, or RedXIII, EVERYONE will look at it and go, "Hey! FF7 Fanart! Cool!" You can get so attached to the characters as well. For example, Aeris. I actually didn't like her at first, but man does she grab your heart and rip it into your throat later on, ya know? (for those that do know, don't ruin without putting SPOILER in your post).

The Music - Not only are there 4 CD's of soundtrack in this game. The tunes, themselves, are extremely well done. And are also extremely memorible. If someone plays in a concert and suddenly does a small tune of Nanaki or the Aeris theme. People will automatically be able to pick it up if they've played the game and Know automatically what game and what character theme. You also need to add in the TONS of remixes, piano sheetmusic, and Professional orchestra stuff these themes are played with (OneWingedAngel theme, anyone?).

The Fighting - Time to add in the greatness of the fighting. With few exceptions. Leveling up your characters and fighting monsters cannot be more fun to do in this game. There are 3 characters per battle. And you basically tell them all what to do. It's turnbased - of course. Also, the materia you equip to the weapons can cause some fun spells and interesting mixes. Not to mention how fun the special attacks can get if you get them all XD I think it's something like 4 special attacks per character, though.

The Plot - Alright, I'll have to admit first off that there are Billions of plotholes in this game. But they don't distrupt the game flow, don't ruin the game at all, and make for some hilarious fancomics and fanfics. The main plot, itself, runs very smoothly through the game with extremely limited slow-spots. And where you think 'man, 3 CD's of plot seems like it'll take forever' you're WRONG. Since the plot is riddled with games and fun activities to keep things entertaining. Everything from the basic games you need to go through 'motorcycle ride, snowboarding, etc', to replaying the games in the themepark, to searching for the 4th limitbreak spells, to finding the coolest, badest, most hidden materia. So not only are you following a plot with many twists and turns (the plot is wonderful, as well. And I'd go on about it but it'd ruin the game for everyone who hasn't played it yet), you're brain keeps working to have fun in the process.

CD warning - I've found through personal experience that some FF7 games, specially the first batch that came out, have bad CD's in them. I was crushed when I found that CD #3 was riddled with scratches and my friend's didn't even work at all. Though the later, cheeper batches of the game (unused and under 20 bucks) worked well. Just keep in mind that if you get the game to keep in mind that one of your CD's might beef you out.

MotionSicknessWarning - The only time I got motion sick in the game was on the world map. And that's only because my friend kept walking in the character in circles and kept sporatically twirling hte scenery in circles as well. But walking in teh map normally isn't bad. Heh. And the rest of the game gave me no motion sickness at all.

Feel free to talk about the game. Just for the rare few of you who haven't played it. Don't read beyond this singular post. Cause I'm not going to have people edit out their spoilers.

Can you say "too many random encounters?" Holy crap... I like to make it across more than three feet of ground before getting jumped... but yeah, it is a great game.

BTW, there is a rumor that the graphics are being re-done to coincide with a release of an updated version of FFVII and the "Advent Children" movie.

Mouth waterin' yet?

This is my all honest opinion, but I think FF7 gets a tad over-rated when it gets discussed. It was a enjoyable game, but I think FF6 was alot better then this one. Though, there is a reason why I didnt think much of FF7. When it came out, everyone was talking about it. All the kids at school, everyone on the internet, everyone. My friend would not shut up about the game. He told me the -entire- storyline, from beggining to end. I didnt even have the game, and he told me all about it. Wanting to spoil every single detail. By the time I caved into peer pressure and bought the game, I knew exactly what was going to happen. I knew Aeries was going to die by Sepheriopth. I knew when, where, how. I even knew the game's ending, because I went to that friend's house and he decided it would be cool to beat the game in front of me. Even though at that time I really didnt give a shit about what was going on......then once I did, it didnt seem to have any impoact because I already knew what was going to happen.

So to me, FF7 isnt that great of a game. I'd have probably enjoy'd it if everything wasnt already spoiled from me by all the fans that discussed it during that time. It taught me a very important lesson though. If someone is playing a game that your playing / about to play, and they are farer ahead then you are, NEVER TALK TO THEM ABOUT IT OR DISCUSS ANY POINTS UNTIL BOTH OF YOU HAVE FINISHED. Otherwise, someone will end up spoling something, and the game becomes pointless and mediocre.

Another thing I learned from FF7: If I ever wanted to die a griesly and gruesome death, all I'll have to do is go to a rpg gamer convention and shout out at the top of my lungs "SEPHIROTH SUCKS!!!!!!!!!". The swarms of Sephy worshippers will rip me apart in seconds. Honestly, why does this guy have so many cultist-type worshippers? Kefka was alot better, in my opinion....

Square-Enix once had plans for recreating 7-9 but caned the idea along time ago.

@gumba: Ari. was my weakest character. I hated her to be in my parties so much. :P

@rancor: /comfort I hate people that do that... Someone would have gotten slapped if they would have spoiled FFVII for me.
