Title: Card Game Animes

I just thought Yugioh was the one dumb anime that was just made to sell cards. But I came to realize that there's a whole legion of 'game animes' out there. From 'BattleMasters' to 'BeyBlade'.. From stock characters playing a game much like Magic. To an entire series about kids travelling around playing with holographic tops. It's really got me worried on anime in the future on cable.

I was told it all started with Pokemon. Maybe because Pokemon became a major cardgame afterwards and the entire hobby shop I use to go to became knee deep in Pokemon playing kids. However, the anime - itself - wasn't about ash and group playing the pokemon cardgame. It was about collecting and egging fuzzy animals formally known as pocket sized monsters. (aka pocket monsters was the japanese name for it). Which was taken off the oldschool gameboy game.

Now some of you people know of many animes taken off of video games. FinalFantasy for example. WildArms is another. Fact, everyone I've known have loved it when there was an anime made off one of hte games they really enjoyed. Most likely cause the anime took on it's own plot.

Personally, I think yugioh was the beginning of all this. The ENTIRE anime is about badly dubbed kids with unkempt hair playing cards with eachother. That's the ENTIRE anime. Collecting the specific godly cards. The anime wasn't about plot anymore, it was about, "The best stratagies to win the game"

Most of the other cardgame and game animes I've seen on television follow the same logic. And it's always the same stuff per anime. 'Collect the best cards! Get More Cards! Beat the Other Players!'

Now not only is this getting old fast. But it's also bad. I mean, I hate to be the aweful grownup with the 'tv is bad for kids' attitude. But come on. What do these animes actually represent? That's right, wasting cash on getting cards and Betting... Not only betting their best cards, but other items they own.. and even 'gasp' their friends! *who hasn't seen an episode where the guy's friends aren't at stake?*

What are your thoughts on this? Do you agree, disagree? ^^ feel free to talk.

well as far a yugioh goes, it originally started as a much more dark series in the manga (there was a lot of death) but it still revolved around a gambling type thing. Personally i laugh at the whole concept of anime based solely around a game with its plot revolving around it. Card games are meant to be a hobby and not someone's life.
