If you thought the anime was good (Gotta love blood, guts, and gore), the manga is awesome. Although, as the series continues through the books, I'm seeing a lot less blood, but hey, the stories are still very good to read, and of course since it's made by TokyoPop, they're read as japanese books should be.

For those who would like a premise...

A chinese guy, whose sexual preference is rather questionable, partially because his clothes are a bit on the effeminate side. He owns a special petshop in Chinatown in either L.A. or New York, I forget which. Oddly, some of his customers have a tendency to die in awful terrible ways. A cop, named Orcot, is convinced that the owner, Count D, is behind the terrible killings, and is out to catch him in the act and arrest him. What's so special about Count D's animals is that not all of the animals are your average pets.. i.e. a mermaid, kirin etc.

The manga is fun to read, and I can't wait to go back to the states to pick up #6, and see if more are out. ^_^

The manga takes place in LA, but good summary. I really like this series, infact its the only one ive spend money on. They're up to the 8th book (or was it the 9th.... i forget, am too far from my house to check...), which is pretty good. For the most part however, I kinda liked the first few better... Personally, I liked the series better when Orcott and D are characters that appear in the series, not the focus of the series...
Not to say that I dont enjoy the series any more, after all, if that was the case, I wouldnt have bought all the books. I have yet to see the anime, but I've heard many negative reviews about it. Also, is it just me, or has PetShop of Horrors strayed away from the "horror" genra and wandered into the realm of something entirly differant? Personally, I'd like to see more chapters like the rabbit one.... Delicious was it? I forget..... But anyway, the series was and still is a great one, and I cant wait till the next one comes out.

I'll agree, the series did start to stray away from the whole Horror genre. It would've been fun to seem more chapters like "Daughter" (the rabbit), and Delicious" (The mermaid). The 10th book is out, and is the final book. It explains everything. The anime features four of the stories from the Manga. It has "Daughter" "Delicious" "Despair" (Medusa episode) and "Duel" (Kiirin episode).

And maybe I'm just weird... but after a couple books, I was hoping that D and Leon would become a couple.. even if Leon is definitely not gay. Like I said.. Maybe I'm just weird.

Awwww!? The LAST one?! Noooooo! Ah well. Now I need to go scrape up some cash and buy it.

Yea, I was quite saddened by the last book. I wanted more. But I guess you know it's a good series when you're left wanting more...
