Title: Signature Pictures
Description: Size limitations
DrunkenDragon™ - January 28, 2004 09:25 PM (GMT)
Hey everyone. Over the last few days I have recieved a few PM's about some people's sig pic sizes, especially over how large they are. It starts get really messy looking around here when people's sig pics are larger than the posts which contain them, and it starts to be a drag on the board itself when something like 80% of a threads page is the sig pics themselves. From now on I'm going to have to ask that sig pics be no bigger than 3-4 inches in length from top to bottom. This is actually a rule of thumb on most message boards that allow sig pics. Also, pictures should not "stretch the tables" meaning basically that people shouldn't have to scroll to the right to view your entire picture. If your posts are longer than everyone else's from side to side, then you know you are stretching the tables.
For those of you concerned that you will not be able to find your same pics in a smaller size, you can always save them to your computer, edit the size of them with Windows Picture Editor, and then upload them to a image host. Once that is done they can be linked into your signatures from there. There are tons of free image hosts on the internet, all readily available to you if you run a search on the term "free image host." Also, for those of you who use YahooIM, they allow so much space to people to upload personal photos and the likes(My Briefcase), this works really well as a remote image host. For AOL users, you can use the 8megs of space they allow you for a homepage to use as an image host. That is what I do with all the pictures you find on the board such as my own sig pic, buttons, banners, forum markers, the jerseys next to the online list, etc. etc.
Anyway, I hope everybody understands and that nobody gets upset with me for implementing this rule. I'll give everyone a few days to either find new pics or a willing and easy to use image host before I, and the other mods start to take individual sigs down for being too large.
Thanks for your understanding, participation on the board, and just for being good people in general.
Chris

Yeah, it takes up pretty much my entire browser window. It's just a bit too long as well, you can tell from the way your post stretches off the page a bit.

Something around this size is ok. Get much bigger and like Chris said, it's stretching the tables.
DrunkenDragon™ - January 28, 2004 11:49 PM (GMT)
Nice pic, maybe i'll have to use that as my sig pic.
Linette - January 28, 2004 11:51 PM (GMT)
And I made it all by myself too ;)

You seem to be computer savvy. Could you help me shrink down my Alou picture? :taz:
I will never say anything bad about the Yankees again!
DrunkenDragon™ - January 29, 2004 03:42 PM (GMT)
I'll shrink it down for you, but I'll need your email address to send it back. Do I have your permission to go into the Admin control panel and look it up?
SaltyCub - January 29, 2004 03:46 PM (GMT)
Yes, I would like to keep both pic's if possible, so see what you can do to make that possible. Thanks a bunch oh nice moderator

I sent a reply. Could you make the grace photo less warped looking?
SaltyCub - January 29, 2004 04:15 PM (GMT)
I am trying your 2nd email pic, how do I get it into my sig? I get the error message
DrunkenDragon™ - January 29, 2004 04:18 PM (GMT)
Did you upload it onto a picture host? If so, what is the URL?
SaltyCub - January 29, 2004 04:22 PM (GMT)
What is a picture host? could you do that for me and supply an URL to me?
DrunkenDragon™ - January 29, 2004 04:27 PM (GMT)
I would but I need the little remaining space on my homepage for board stuff. I have two boards, and I need to get the images for the other one back online so it will actually look like it used to.
Does your ISP allow you to have a homepage? If so you can upload them onto that and link them from there. YahooIM allows people to use so much space for pictures, you can link them from there as well. SexyYank might be able to help you with finding a website hosting service, but other than a homepage and YahooIM I don't know of any offhand.

I use
iownjoo for hosting all of my images. It's free unless you want more web space.

I am using www.angelfire.com for mine. They give you only 20 megs for free, but you can sign up multiple times. Once I get a new page set up I can probably host some pictures for people. I have phototshop so i can resize them as well

Haha, "only" 20megs? That is a good amount of space for free. iownjoo.com gives people 8megs for free I think, and they say thats like 80 pic files or something like that.
CraziCub - January 30, 2004 11:27 PM (GMT)
20 megs is a lot for free. Especially if you can make multiple accounts.
DrunkenDragon™ - January 30, 2004 11:31 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I have a laptop that doesn't have that much hard drive space.
JoeCub - January 31, 2004 05:07 AM (GMT)
I'll definitely have to look into that 20 mb for free. What's the catch?
DrunkenDragon™ - January 31, 2004 06:56 AM (GMT)
There is none, they provide free homepages and make money off the advertisements. Thats how I think it works anyway.
