JoeCub - March 14, 2006 02:42 AM (GMT)

Sorry, Osa, but I had to root for Carlos last night. That grand slam by Martinez was a moon shot, too.
PR will knock the Cubans back to Fidel tonight. ;)
Could be worse - USA only seems capable of winning with a bad call now.

:( :( :( :( :( :( :(
it hurts like hell...... :ph43r:

It would be nice if Team USA would learn how to play baseball, instead of the 9 inning HR Derby they seem to be TRYING to play in.
Just like Team USA(basketball) losing so many games to teams with far less talent. We've started slam dunk contests instead of real basketball games, and seem to have forgotten all the "little things" that win.....both games.
JoeCub - March 14, 2006 06:32 PM (GMT)
Not to worry, if the USA loses this tournament Selig will have a heart attack AND a stroke. There is a silver lining to everything.

this is presciesly what team Puerto Rico has played..excellent well thought and strategic baseball, the team has been cohesive and well managed....it has crossed my mind that jose oquendo would do wonders with the cubs....

If only the Cubs would be able to (and would be smart enough) to pry Oquendo away from the Cards...
Game one for the USA was telltale ...2 solo homers the only scoring.
OsaMayor - March 15, 2006 03:24 PM (GMT)
well, venezuelas gone.....how sweet is revenge...now zambrano and henry can return ti spring training...that will take getting used to after all this excitement....
yesterday was a horrible day for me....i cant believe what a game of baseball can do...counting the hours till tonight and then ill probably hide under my bed for three hours....i want to be in san diego badly :ph43r:
JoeCub - March 15, 2006 04:56 PM (GMT)
Hey Osa, I hope PR wins this thing for you. At least one Cub fan in the world can have some enjoyment this year.
OsaMayor - March 15, 2006 07:04 PM (GMT)

Osa -
So very sorry that P.R. did not make it in (and shocked). :(
Not so much about the USA. <_<
I guess the good thing is that we've still got the 2006 MLB season to look forward too (instead of having to stew over the winter over the WBC outcome).

DCT,
Thanks for the sympathy. I had a hard time adjusting but at the end I was really glad for the Cubans. After all, our guys get to go everywhere but not so the Cubans. I think Castro has done great things for the poor in Cuba but the lack of freedom is something that I could not deal with. The Cuban reality has been very different to ours. They have had dictators throughout the 20th century while we are used to having elections every four years since 1948. Their mentality is very different from ours and the Cubans in the U.S. retain that way of thinking. To them the end justifys the means and they do try to influence our politics from Miami and New York, which I highly resent. But they are still our caribbean kin so I am rooting for them.
Don't treat yourselves too harshly. I believe all teams that made it to round two were THE teams. Do you think it's fair for Korea not to be in the finals? There's something wrong with that picture. To be eliminated after losing it's first game doesn't really work for me but that's the way it is. To me this classic is more a great baseball show than a real competition. I was very proud of my guys when they joined the Cuban team on the field after the game to congratulate and celebrate together. The Cuban players all wanted to have their picture taken with Pudge, who by the way, did look pudgy with all the weight he has lost.
It's been great. I have enjoyed it to the hilt and I'm hoping this thing will take place every two years.
Osa

Dear OM, I strongly agree. Especially, after South Korean had beaten Japan TWICE already in the process.
I certainly hope some of the US players took notice from the Caribbean and Asian teams on how the game should be played, in regards to the finer aspects of the game. On top of the obvious fact that other teams wanted it more, it was enjoyable to see runners being moved over, the cut off man always being hit and all out hustle on every play. I enjoyed the classic much more that I had originally anticipated. Best regards, Cle

Nope - not fair for Korea to be knocked out because of 1 game. More than 1 game decided all of the previous rounds - it makes no sense that only 1 game decides the final.
Hopefully they'll change it next time the WBC occurs.

Well - I'm watching Cardinals v. Braves from sunny Florida. Outside it's started snowing again - hard. We're supposed to get up to another foot by tomorrow morning. The kids are home from school and I'm working from home. We bought a new AWD vehicle - but my husband doesn't want to drive it on the lousy roads. He's took my piece o'crap FWD Nissan his morning.

Here is the standing after round two of the series....the way I see things....the best 8 teams made it to the second round...anyone of these teams could have won...they were all very good made up mostly of major league players anyway but grouped together under their respective countries...it was very refreshing and very interesting...I am still trying to grasp it all :D
Dominicana 5 1
PR 4 2
Korea 6 0
Venezuela 3 3
Cuba 4 2
EEUU (USA) 3 3
Mexico 3 3
Japon 3 3
Japan, which came in second in both rounds, became the champ...
JoeCub - March 21, 2006 05:21 PM (GMT)
I have to admit, I didn't pay a whole lot of attention to the WBC but how does Korea go undefeated (6-0) and not even get into the finals?

I would feel bad about your snow but I'd trade it all for the ICE we got last night.

I've been a supporter of the WBC since I first heard about it, but that scoring system HAS to go.
