Title: Root for Pujols?
Description: To break BB's single season HR record???
digchitown - May 23, 2006 02:34 PM (GMT)
Pujols is realistically on pace to break Barry's single season home run record. As I watched him hit another one on Sunday, I found myself thinking it would be great if he could beat Barry's juiced record and have convinced myself that it is something for me to hope for this season. Is that wrong? :P

Yes. Very wrong. I'd rather MLB wipe the records of McGuire, Bonds, and Sosa from the record books. They won't but I can dream. The only thing I'm hoping from Pujols is a broken leg. I know that is wrong to root for a player to get injured, and admittedly a great person too, but I don't care. If I had a million dollars I'd pay it just to shut up the obnoxious Cardinal fans around these parts. Sour grapes? Yes, but again, I don't care.

Although Pujols is a Cardinal, he is much easier to have respect for than Barry. Besides, if Cubs fans collectively cheer for something to happen, it won't happen.

To be honest I was rooting for Bonds to break McGuires record even though I can't stand Barry. It's just worth it in my opinion to have the record holder in SF (or any other city) than STL. I HATE the Cardinals with a WHITE HOT passion.

I find myself rooting for Pujols. I've had to put up with white trash White Sox fans for the last 7 months so I guess I could put up with white trash Cardinal's fan if Pujols gets the record. Besides, it is not as if the Cubs are anywhere close to being talented enough to threaten a well run organization like the Cardinals. At the end of the day, no matter if the Cardinals win or not, their fans are STILL only Cardinals fans. Kind of like being the world's tallest midget..........who cares? If the Cubs winning a championship meant I'd have to turn into an inbread, mullet wearing blathering idiot, I think I'd have to pass................who am I kidding, where do I sign up for the idiot classes and how long does it take to grow a proper mullet? :D

St. Louis, MO for the classes. Not sure on the mullet but I think they are born with them.

Is the MO short for MOron? :P
I admire your fortitude Joe. I could not survive living amidst so many Cardinal fans. My first job out of college as an engineer in 1985 was for McDonnell Douglas and I lasted all of 13-1/2 weeks before I quit and moved back to Chicago. I couldn't take the Cardinals' fans on a daily basis. In '99 I built a plant for Pharmacia in Chesterfield, MO. This time I knew better than to get an apartment in the area and simply commuted back and forth from Chicago everyday. In 2003 when we installed the security screening system at Lambert airport, I didn't have a choice to commute so I either was at the airport or at the airport Marriott as my two previous experiences convinced me I didn't need to venture into the cesspool that is St Louis.

Dear ITP, I tell you what. The cubs are so miserable that they've taken most of the emotion out of the game for me. At this juncture, I really feel no dislike for the Cards or the Sox. What's the point? When we're this horrible, there really is no longer a rivalry. We're like the Beav, always trying but failing to live up to big brother Wally.
It's really more like a Major League team playing a AAA team. Opps, that's not quite right. We just lost two games in a row to a AAA team and looked really bad doing it.
Anyways, I feel no particular animosity towards Pujols. How could one? He's a good guy and a great player on a perennial winner. While that's something the Cubs may never have, jealousy might be the only justifiable emotion.
Conversely, I do hate Baroid and how he's soiled our great national pastime. Break his records. Bury them. Erase them. Forget about em.
Power to A. Pujlos. Power to A. Pujlos, right on.
In fact, I'm rooting for him. ;) Best regards, Cle

The Cubs are to the point that they are unwatchable. Seeing a so-called major league team simply go through the motions is embarassing as a fan of the game. Being bad is no excuse for lack of effort. Alas, the ZERO accountabilty approach of Dusty Baker has taken hold of the team. So much for the so-called player's manager being good for the team.
