They've run off quite a streak, winning 9 of their last 10 including an 8 game streak that ended last weekend. Over the last week they've taken hold of first place in the PCL North division, and now hold a 3 game lead over Nashville with a 21-16 record.
Eric Patterson's had 7 straight games of two hits or more, and has raised his average from .284 on May 6 to .339 through yesterday. Mike Fontenot had a 4-6 day yesterday in a 17-7 Cubs win and is now hitting a robust .368 on the year, and slugging .640. Yowza...if only he could play short.
Even the catchers are hitting. Koyie Hill is at .329 in 27 games, and Soto's hitting .297 in 25. Micah Hoffpauir at 1B is .296/.343 and slugging .552 while leading the team with 7 homers and 36 RBI.
Of note in the pitching staff...Marshall's 1-0 with a 2.16 ERA in three starts. 14 Ks in 15 innings, but 8 walks too. Carlos Marmol is 4-1 with a 3.79 ERA, 46 Ks in 40.1 innings and a 1.02 WHIP. Remember Mike Harkey? He's the pitching coach down here now. Maybe he's doing something right with Marmol...
Long way to go, but so far so good...
Interesting info...thanks.
Hey, Iowa.....
Mrs. Zip and I are looking forward to seeing the guys in Albuquerque on June 30 and July 1. We are going to stay at the Sandia Resort and Casino; and, we will take in those two dates at the beautiful park where the Isotopes play.
Can't wait to see some of these AAA players in person!
On the other hand, I am thinking that some of the big club's bullpen losers should meet me in Albuquerque!!!
B)
We always enjoy AlbuQQ.....after a time in Santa Fe.....
Zip, have fun at the game. I went last night to see them bend over to Oklahoma to the tune of 13-3. Ryan O'Malley gave up 4 in the first, then didn't get out of the second inning. Everybody else who pitched sucked too.
Eric Patterson is apparently playing left field now so they can get Fontenot (who should be starting everyday with his .370 average) and Cedeno (groan) in the lineup everyday. Well, Patterson sucks out there. With the bases loaded in the first, a guy dropped a hit in front of him along the line. Patterson jumped as it landed (for what reason I'm not sure), and it promptly rolled past him to the wall for a bases clearing triple. A few innings later, he misplayed a double that allowed a run to score and another runner to advance. Have no fear though, he didn't get an error on either play, so looking at the stats, it'll look like he can play outfield too and people can overrate him that much more.
Pie struck out and misplayed a liner in right center. It looked like he went to dive for the ball, then lost it, and put his hands up to his face to avoid getting hit. No error though! Who the hell was scoring this game, a 6 year old?
By the way, Scott Moore's defense sucks. From what I saw last night (hopefully an aberration), he has neither the arm nor the glove to be able to play third.
I got to top that brilliant, crisp example of well-played baseball off with the big Cubs coming back and subsequently blowing yet another game because of the bullpen. What a great way to kick off the weekend.
