Title: My 20 Gallon Arboreal
Description: what to do?
Tommy - October 14, 2005 08:41 PM (GMT)
I have a 20 gallon arboreal tank with 1 whites tree frog in it. My other one died of old age yesterday :( :( . I had him for 7 years and i am very sad :( . What should i do?
Tommy - October 14, 2005 10:29 PM (GMT)
the tanks dimensions are 16 inches width and length and 20 inches high. As for what to do i have considered getting crabs i saw at the store(hermits and fidlers and others), another leopard gecko, maybe some green tree frogs, and anoles(had before not that exciting. So the 1 i have now is fine and i hope he lasts long. Does anyone know if crabs like fiddlers can be kept with large hermits? at the stopre they had 3 of crabs including fiddler and hermits in another. I would probably want a gecko, or the crabs.

leopard geckos are desert and the treefrogs are tropical so the humiditiy will be different for both. tropical geckos could be fine, like day geckos. another treefrog of similar size would be okay too. i wouldnt mix crabs, but im sure some people have done it. i wouldnt want something like a crab in my treefrog tank(if i had treefrogs).

im sorry i should have been more clear. When the other tree frog dies since i dont plan on getting anymore whites tree frogs i wanted to know what you guys would do with it. I gave you 3 suggestions and they dont include my current whites tree frog.

i think leopard geckos are a great pet. i dont like crabs, too boring. other frogs would be kind of cool( i would go with a pacman). if the tank is waterproof you could clean it out and use it for fish since you like fish. so out of the choices you listed i would go with a leo.

its not a fish aquarium actually. i ordered it online and built it myself. I can hold water to a certain point thought thats why i mentioned the crabs. I do like pacman frogs. I have a leopard gecko in a 10 gallon and my bro has 1 in a 20 long and they are great pets. every frog i have had wasnt anything to be sooo excited about. i would like to either get a leopard gecko or the crabs. the crabs seem kind of interesting. they have some at my local petsmart. I really have no idea what to chose.

If i can i may order a rarer type of leopard gecko or something like a frog eyed gecko or a banded gecko.

check out reptileauction.com. they will have soem great morphs. be careful though because they will give some names that sound like they are great but it is really just crooked lines in juveniles, or slightly brighter orange/yellow, or a few less spots. but i guess in the end if you like the color/pattern and are willing to pay whatever they are asking, then it is worth that much to you. my favorites are blizzard, albino(some types), leucistic, and hypomelanistic. carrottail can appear on many and is just a lot of orange on the tail, that looks cool too.
Tommy - October 15, 2005 02:19 PM (GMT)
i have several books on them and like blizzard alot. Im sure i can easily find a breeder or a pet shop that has some nice ones. Reptileguy, what reptiles/ amphibians do you have?
reptileguy2727 - October 15, 2005 09:22 PM (GMT)
i currently have i leopard gecko, but have had many more and bred them. i have a 6" ornate pacman frog(most books say they only get 5") i have the turtles(5" snapper, 3" penninsula cooter, 3-4" western painted).
i have personally had all of the following(on top of everything i have cared for at pet stores):
tokay geckos, african fattailed geckos, anoles, green treefrogs, fire belly newt, paddletail newts, oregon newts, savanna monitors, nile monitor, water monitor, black and white tegus, budgetts frogs, albino asian bullfrog, axolotls, african bullfrog(pyxie frog), map turtles, eastern painted turtles, red belly sliders, yellow belly sliders, alligator snappers, florida softshell turtles, red ear sliders, southern painted turtels, flying dragons, fire salamander, box turtles, asian leaf turtles, regular boa(nothing special), a few different types of california kingsnakes, a few types of milksnakes, african clawed frogs(regular and albino), gray treefrogs, cane toads, veiled chameleon, over a dozen pacmans(ornate, regular green, and albino), uromastyx, bearded dragon, i think thats it, i may have forgot a few. through working at pet stores i have cared for most of the other things you will see in pet stores(everything thats not really rare, and some that are). i have had all of these personally for at least a little while. most i sold, some died for various reasons, and a few i gave away.

also, the pet shop i work at has a hypomelanistic carrottail male leopard gecko, nice, beautiful, for only $60. if you were at all interested this is a good deal. shipping would be extra, but im assuming you wat to get something from a pet shop around you, but i thought i would let you know.

yah i would like to see the gecko in person before buying. some arent breed in the best quality. Im sure i can easily find a gecko i want, i live in NY! I am leaning towrds not using the tank. im happy with my gecko now so if anything i may do crabs or the gecko but it will most likely be torn down.
reptileguy2727 - October 15, 2005 10:10 PM (GMT)
torn down? and you peu this tank together yourself after ordering it online or something right? so is it collapsible? exactly what type of tank is this? i have shipped animals overnight without problems. get pics of anything if you but it online, some peopel give a pic of one of their leos, obviously the best one. even ones in the store may have been bred poorly and you wont be able to tell then either(unless its really bad). if you dont see something you like in the stores buying online isnt bad, i have done it a few times and rarely had problems, cant even think of one, but i probably did have at least one.
Tommy - October 15, 2005 10:15 PM (GMT)
i would rather buy it instead of order. it a good tank and i can take it apart its called create a cage. it comes to you with a hood, 4 sides, and a base and you just like put them together, thats why i cant use it as another aquarium. the base is at least 6 inches tall so i could make a shallow beach type thing if i went with crabs. It stays together very well and it wont collapse unless you try to make it collapse.
reptileguy2727 - October 15, 2005 10:42 PM (GMT)
what site did you get it from, do you remember? i would liek to check it out more. is yours a 20 high or tall?
Tommy - October 15, 2005 11:59 PM (GMT)
its not either really. Its 4 sided and to short to be a long or tall but it is 6 inches wider and alot taller. i looked for the site and had no luck. You could try a google search using creat a cage or arboreal tanks. i beleve i ordered the smallest 1 but i thin its around 20 gallons.
