Title: Panda Cories Breeding

Tommy - October 31, 2005 09:25 PM (GMT)
I beleve i have 2-3 males and 2-3 females and i have noticed the females acting strangely and the males following them. are they breeding? where do they lay there eggs/ how long till they hatch?

See my page at http://www.fishpondinfo.com/cory.htm

When ready to breed, the smaller males chase the females. They get in a t-position to fertilize the eggs, one at a time. Then, the female carries one big egg at a time between her pectoral fins and looks for a place to stick it, usually on the glass or a fake ornament. So, there'll be one egg here and one there. The eggs take longer than other egg-laid fish to hatch, maybe up to a week at 70-75 degrees F.

I have seen chasing but thats it. Its usually towards night so i dont know if they are doing anything else. If the eggs are on the glass how do you remove them?

The eggs can be scraped off with a credit card or knife of some sort. I never did that. I just waited until some hatched and sucked them up with the gravel vacuum and pipetted them out of the bathtub.

thats seems good. will the parents eat the babies? i wouldnt want to put a credit card or a knife in my tank.

Panda cories will eat their own eggs but I think they are much less apt to do so than most fish. I even had a few panda cory babies grow up in the community tank on their own.

i hope they do breed. i think they have a few times and maybe i will be lucky enough to find a baby or 2 in the tank.

what do you call an overcrowded tank

Tommy - November 4, 2005 11:14 PM (GMT)
overcrowded or overstocked. having one is bad and not healthy to the fish...
