This is Robyn. Please put questions and answers into the new forum. The stuff below is old questions. Someone has since posted into that. I don't even know how! This forum was deleted by the host. I tried to set it back up. Now it's a mess!
Hi Robyn. I came accross your page while searching for information about fathead minnows. I currently have one as a pet and was considering putting her into a tank with a male or a female Betta (I have both in separate tanks). I was curious to see whether you have ever tried this and whether or not you think they'd get along. Thanks!
How large of a tank are you talking about?
A female Betta may get along with a Minnow okay, but I wouldn't trust a male Betta. I don't have any experience mixing Bettas with other species, but that's my opinion, based on what I have studied. Lets see what Robyn has to say.
I had one betta. Using my own web site, I determined that the betta lived in my 20 gallon tank from 7/29/01 to 12/19/01. My female fathead minnow I had who was in that tank died on 7/31/01. So, for three days, I did have them together! There was no problem because there was plenty of room and other fish to distract them all. I don't forsee a problem as long as the tank is at least 10 gallons and has places for the fish to hide. Of course, minnows like it cool and bettas like it hot but a compromise of about 76 degrees F should work for both.
