Title: 30 Gal Tank
Description: info on making it more attractful

wildlife1023 - November 26, 2005 07:29 PM (GMT)
What should I do to make my 30 gal tank more attracting and more healthy if possible for my fish? I have no real plants in it currently. There are real rocks, an artificial one, pebbles on the bottom, and thats all the stuff in it. Should I get a real plant? Will it be good for the fish? Can the plant actually become a source for a snack? I dont know what to do. What type of plant I should get?
thanks
~Caroline~ ;)

i thought it was a 20 gallon? live plants are a snack source but biten up live plants just dont look good. I would get an airetor, thats good to have.

wildlife1023 - November 26, 2005 09:46 PM (GMT)
Actually I just figured out it was a 30 gallon I thought it was a 20. (srry bout that) lol. Thanks for the tips
~Caroline~ :D

Tommy - November 26, 2005 09:58 PM (GMT)
i would go with plastic plants. they dont get eaten, dont need special care, and dont need to be replaced!

wildlife1023 - November 26, 2005 10:03 PM (GMT)
Hmm plastic plants great idea. Okay doke thanks.
~Caroline~ :D

Tommy - November 26, 2005 10:07 PM (GMT)
there are also silk plants, they look cool too.

wildlife1023 - November 26, 2005 10:09 PM (GMT)
oh yeah I've seen silk plants before, yeah that would be nice. thanks again
~Caroline~ B)

Tommy - November 26, 2005 10:11 PM (GMT)
ive seen silk in aquariums, they look OK but i prefer plastic. ;)

wildlife1023 - November 26, 2005 10:14 PM (GMT)
I guess plastic is better I thought about it...sometimes the silk plants have little tendrils haning off the sides.
~Caroline~ ;)

Tommy - November 26, 2005 10:15 PM (GMT)
yah, thats why i like plastic better, the color seems better too.

wildlife1023 - November 26, 2005 10:16 PM (GMT)
well, yeah the color usually is more light and happy-lookin to me. I like light green plant colors.
~Caroline~ ;)

Tommy - November 26, 2005 10:19 PM (GMT)
i have a mix of colored plants, all look natural, my tank has fake stuff but looks natural. il have to get a pic up one day.

wildlife1023 - November 26, 2005 10:21 PM (GMT)
Cool! I'll have to take a good look at tha picture. Its hard for me to get good shots of my tank, I dont have any special camera. The glass makes it hard to get good pics too.
~Caroline~ :P

Tommy - November 26, 2005 10:23 PM (GMT)
yes, but its mostly lighting that affects pics, and of course the camara.

wildlife1023 - November 26, 2005 10:29 PM (GMT)
Yeah okay I used a digital camera, I only got to get four shots in today.
~Caroline~

Tommy - November 27, 2005 01:26 AM (GMT)
thats okay, you only really need 1 good shot.

I have philodendrons & silk plants in my tank for my baby paradise fish to hide in. Robyn has pics of these posted on her Paradise FIsh Page. I also have a "tiki" head & a double cave for them to hide in. I have 2 blue paradise fish & a pleco in the tank (10 gal) & have put in gravel & marbles that aceentuate the fishs' colors. Plastic plants are nice as they do brighten up the tank but I wanted something that would flow with the water & not be so stiff looking. Everyone has their preference. Good luck w/whatever you decide to so there. All my pics have been taken w/my digital & they've come out really nice. The glare from the flash is annoying but that's a small price to pay. I've even taken video on it of the mating process & turned it into a DVD. Very educational...my best friend calls it fishy-porn. What a spaz.

Tommy - November 28, 2005 09:21 PM (GMT)
I guess thats an advantage for silk over plastic, i never thought of that(or seen it!)

wildlife1023 - November 28, 2005 09:46 PM (GMT)
Hmm thanks! I'll think about it. I'm not adding anything to my tank right away. Soon maybe. Thanks for the tips I have lots to consider.
~Caroline~ :)

it took me a while to find aquascaping i liked. i drew everything out until i found the perfect one. you should try it.

wildlife1023 - November 28, 2005 10:05 PM (GMT)
okay...umm whats "aquascping"? did you spell soemthing wrong, what do you mean?
~Caroline~

Tommy - November 28, 2005 11:16 PM (GMT)
aquascaping is how you design your tank, with things like plants, driftwood, rocks, ornaments and more.

wildlife1023 - November 28, 2005 11:39 PM (GMT)
OH thanks I get it! Good plan. I'll try it over the weekend. Might sound silly but, ss there any thing that looks good and is healthy for the fish or something?
~Caroline~ :P
thanks

Tommy - November 29, 2005 12:46 AM (GMT)
what do you mean? you can go to your lfs, they should have a nice selection on plants and ornaments.

wildlife1023 - November 29, 2005 08:37 PM (GMT)
Ummm something environmental friendly? Thats everything they sell I guess nevermind I didnt think about it.
~Caroline~

Tommy - November 29, 2005 09:38 PM (GMT)
ask before you buy becuase some rocks may raise ph or something.

Caroline - November 29, 2005 10:46 PM (GMT)
Yeah okay thanks. Thats what I meant. Great!!
~Caroline~ :P

Tommy - November 29, 2005 11:33 PM (GMT)
i noticed that community fish love to have alot of plants in the tank to hide, breed, and play in. You bichir should have a cave.

wildlife1023 - November 30, 2005 12:30 AM (GMT)
if you mean rock caves, I have those.

Tommy - November 30, 2005 01:32 AM (GMT)
thats good. are they slate? my cave is slate, the fish love it!

wildlife1023 - November 30, 2005 09:43 PM (GMT)
No, they are ordinary rocks. Should i get a bit of slate to put in there for my fish?
~caroline~ :D

Tommy - November 30, 2005 10:17 PM (GMT)
slates good, i use it for my rainbow shark. i dont know about bichirs though, your dojo may like a slate cave.

wildlife1023 - December 2, 2005 10:55 PM (GMT)
Cool okay. i've never had a rainbow shark. Ive had one bala though and it was good-tempered usually. Yeah my dojo seems to like threading in and out of caves and stuff. He really likes this plastic grass I have in there. He made a little ditch under it.
~Caroline~ B)

Tommy - December 2, 2005 10:58 PM (GMT)
my old dojo liked to stay in the grass too. i read somewhere thats what they like to do alot!

wildlife1023 - December 2, 2005 11:02 PM (GMT)
hehe thats good. My dojo is very active.
~Caroline~

Tommy - December 2, 2005 11:06 PM (GMT)
i loved my dojo, i miss him. he was the first fish to go in my bros 15 gallon and he was soo cool! unfortunately we bought him from petco! and of course he died. :( the only fish that we had survive petco were 3 blackskirts that i like alot, they are like little peadeful pirahhanas.

reptileguy2727 - December 3, 2005 02:02 AM (GMT)
i like the gold dojos. they are neat. i like albino and gold stuff though, i know a lot of people dont.

wildlife1023 - December 3, 2005 02:26 AM (GMT)
Albinos are definetly sooo cool! Golds sound awesome too.
~Caroline~

Tommy - December 3, 2005 03:45 PM (GMT)
i havent seen an albino but i have seen the asian one, the european one, and the gold one. the gold ones had some black on them.

wildlife1023 - December 3, 2005 09:29 PM (GMT)
oh Ive never seen an albino dojo, Im just saying that I like mostly all albino fish. I dont know if I've seen a golden dojo before. I've ownbed two Asian dojos 5 years ago. I heardly even knew anything about fish then!
