thanks, what do you think the next step up is from what ive got? im not looking for anything that will eat mice or need over a 30 gallon.

reptileguy2727 - December 11, 2005 02:15 AM (GMT)
albino bullfrog if you liked the regular one you had. crested geckos are supposed to be cool, but i havent had one yet. they should be easy to care for and handlable. you could even breed them in a 30.

Tommy - December 11, 2005 02:17 AM (GMT)
dont bullfrogs need big tanks? i caught one and then wanted to keep it but i was told they need big tanks. what about chameleons? my father likes them and i think they are cool too. i heard they can be kinda hard, why is that?

reptileguy2727 - December 11, 2005 02:29 AM (GMT)
they eat A LOT, they need tanks much bigger than a 30. chameleons also need high humidity, good lighting, even then they can be pretty sensitive, some of them anyways. i guess a bullfrog might need a bigger tank, but im not sure on the max size of the albino asian tiger bullfrog. what about crested geckos?

GynMonkey1044 - December 11, 2005 04:40 AM (GMT)
I have had.....iguagnas, firebelly newts, fire belly toads, american toads, greek tortoise, yellow foot tortoise, sulcatta, redfoot tortoise, leopard tortoise, bred leopard geckos, whites tree forgs, red eye tree frogs, cuban tree frogs, pac man frogs, pixie frog, pipa pipas, albino bull frog, bearded dragon, red ear slider, yellow belly slider, milk snake, i think that is it but there are probably others. Reptileguy forgot to put he had axelotls.

reptileguy2727 - December 11, 2005 01:46 PM (GMT)
oh yeah, those were awesome. those would be a good one for you if you can find them. a guy sells them at a reptile expo in PA if that isnt too far, im not sure where in PA. i can probably find out mor einfo on him and the show if you want, and its axolotl.

Tommy - December 11, 2005 02:58 PM (GMT)
isnt a pixie frog the african bullfrog? those are pretty cool. what about russian tortises? they are pretty cool. how big do they get?

reptileguy2727 - December 11, 2005 03:10 PM (GMT)
russians get 4-8", so if it is on the bigger end at all that tank wouldnt be big enough (tortoises crossed my mind, but since you want them to fit in a 30 they arent acceptable). yes, african bullfrogs and pyxie frogs are the same thing. although they are very similar to pacmans and may not need that big of a tank, although it would be even better for the frog. do you know what an axolotl is?

Tommy - December 11, 2005 03:22 PM (GMT)
an axolot is a salamander right? i think i know what they look like. il check my books. how big do they get?

reptileguy2727 - December 11, 2005 03:25 PM (GMT)
supposedly up to a foot, but i think its actually more like 6-8". a pair would be good in a 30 if you have enough filtration and hiding spots. they are really cool and easy to care for. they come in a number of different morphs like normal, albino, leucustic, gold albino, probably more.

Tommy - December 11, 2005 03:27 PM (GMT)
i was thinking of doing a community or something. also i would prefer something that wont need to swim and stuff, land animals. i have done anoles with green tree frogs but it got kinda boring.

reptileguy2727 - December 11, 2005 03:44 PM (GMT)
what did you want to try this time? most interesting herps are either too big, cant cohabitate, or are aquatic. the safest community is what you had, or a slight variation. you may need to cut it down to one type of animal.

Tommy - December 11, 2005 07:21 PM (GMT)
can i add any thing to what i used to have? like a gecko or something?

reptileguy2727 - December 11, 2005 10:36 PM (GMT)
maybe a smaller type of day gecko. there is a decent list of possibilities, but some require you to not have one of the others or to be the only thing in that area of the tank, like in the water or in the top with the vines.

Tommy - December 11, 2005 11:00 PM (GMT)
hmm, so a small day gecko? il do some more reaserch, thanks!
