i think that was the albino male. it is at the demonstration i gave at a daycare. (in case you arent sure its in the critter keeper with the blue top.)

how big do they get? what happened to it? how many did you have? how big was their settup?

they are supposed to get up to a foot, but i think it is more like 8" tops. i sold them. i had 2 big ones (this one and one other) and later bought 4 small ones and one tiny one. at first i had them in a 10 gallon fish tank and i dont think i had any fish in it. then to prepare to breed them i separated them into sterilite containers with a bubble filter, bare bottom, and a 2" PVC t-connector that they liked to hide in. after they were in the sterilite containers for less than a week they each passed a few pieces of gravel from the fish tank, so i wouldnt use gravel with them. the sterilite containers were about 5" high, 8-10" wide, and 12-15" long. they did really well in them, although i think they would look and probably do better in a short aquarium, like the one my leo is in.

there are cool. how much are they?

there is a guy who does shows in MD, PA, maybe even NY, Mike shrom. i got all my smaller ones from him. they were $10/ea at a reptile expo, $4 or something for the tiny one. i got the 2 big ones online for $30 for both i think.

how big of a tank do they need? can they live in my pond?

reptileguy2727 - December 15, 2005 09:31 PM (GMT)
i wouldnt put them in a pond. one would need 15 gallons to itself, more would obviously need a bigger tank.

Tommy - December 15, 2005 10:41 PM (GMT)
why no pond? need warmer water? i could take them out over the winter.

reptileguy2727 - December 15, 2005 10:51 PM (GMT)
i think they probably arent hardy enough to live in a pond. they also wouldnt be enjoyable since you wouldnt be able to see them, they would just hide. i think it would be a huge waste to stick them in a pond, and thats assuming they would live.

they seem cool, can i put them in a 55 river tank? i was thinking of putting frogs in there too.

reptileguy2727 - December 17, 2005 01:58 AM (GMT)
what kind of river tank? the perfecto river tanks or a viquarium or what? axolotls in there depends on what else you want to put in there, and how many gallons of water they would have swimming access to.

Tommy - December 17, 2005 02:01 AM (GMT)
forget the river tank. i decided not to. i think im just going to do an upgrade on my fish tanks and do salt then i will do a river tank or something.
