Title: Betta & Plecostomus Compatability
Description: Are bettas and succer fish compatible?

Cameron Martin - December 16, 2005 09:34 PM (GMT)
I just adopted a betta fish and a plecostomus from two of my friends. They are currently in separate bowls, but I would like to put them together. Are they compatible?

Thanks,
Cam

i am not sure if they will be compatible but i would think so aslong as you have a biggenough tank to hause them both. they would need more then a bowl. One of the main reasone you cant keep bettas with other fish is because the other fish will nip the bettas long hanging fins but seeing the plecostomus is a bottom suckerfish it should be ok. As i said i am not sure so i would wait for one of the other members to answer aswell :D

should be fine like tim said. they need a tank asap, at least 55 when the pleco is older. good luck!

Thank you so much for your help. My stupid friends in college got them earlier in the semester and were planning on leaving them in their dorm all of Christmas break to starve. So, I took them at the last minute and am really not prepared. Any way, that's the story. I'll get them a new tank to share asap.

THANKS :)

Yes, a betta and plecostomus should get along fine. They will probably ignore each other as long as the tank is large enough. Some plecos grow just a few inches long but most sold commonly will eventually grow over a foot long. I have a 14" pleco that's 10-years-old in a 40 gallon tank. He really needs more room though.

If I were you I would choose otocinclus instead.
