Title: What's Wrong W/my African Dwarf Frog?
Description: Mystery Amphibian Illness

We've had 2 african dwarf frogs for almost 6 months now, and they've thrived in a 6 gallon tank, until a week or so ago. they seem to have (both) gotten whitish bumps on their rear (where a tail WOULD be)- and the bumps are getting bigger. Is this a tumor or infection of some kind? Thought it was strange that BOTH got it. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

is it just one spot on each one, perfectly symmetrical between the legs? i know the regular (full-sized) african clawed frog females get an ovipositor there, that may what is happening on yours. if this is the case it just means they are both females and they are doing well. a pic would help though. the ovipositor on the regulars just looks like a small white bump, almost like a tiny tail that sticks straight out the back of them right between their legs.

Can you post a photo? Where is the white thing? I can't tell from your description if it's normal or not. They didn't have it before, or you just noticed? My female African dwarf frogs don't have obvious ovipositors (then again, I didn't look that closely down there). The fact that it's growing could indicate that it's a growth or infection. The fact that both have it though seems to indicate that it's normal. I await more description or a photo.

I have the same problem with my frogs hence the reason I found this site. Mine have 2 white lumps on the top of its body near the rear. One lump is much larger than the other. I will try to take a pic so you can see. Hopefully frogdude will have one to share as well.

Frogdude posted almost 1.5 years ago so it's doubtful he'll post a photo.

It sounds like your frog may have some sort of cyst or tumor. If you post a photo, I'll let you know what I think.
