Title: Snails
Description: What should i do to get rid of them?

In my 15 gallon planted tank, i have an explosion of snails. I keep the population undercontrol by hand. I dont want to add loaches for several reasons, some get too big, to aggresive, and my tank is overstocked(Giving fish away). What should i do, had-a-snail? In the tank i have a 5 inch pleco(giving away), 3 bronze cories, 1 rainbow shark(moving to a different tank), 5 female guppies, 3 black skirt tetras, and 1 male ram.

I've never used Had-a-Snail. Robyn advised another member against it. I'd e-mail Robyn & ask her what she thinks.

What is Had-A-Snail?

Had-A-Snail is a high copper solution (copper sulfate pentahydrate actually) that kills snails and other invertebrates. It can be hard on sensitive fish as well like plecos, loaches, and freshwater "sharks." Here's the PAN page on it:

My page on snails and ways to control them is at http://www.fishpondinfo.com/snail.htm

Tommy, if you don't want to tear down the tank, then you might try baiting the snails. You could toss in something they like to eat. For some snails, that could be romaine lettuce. For others, it might be more meat-like, for example a piece of lunch meat (I know, it could foul the water). Plus, your fish may go for the baits instead. Put the bait in after the lights are out. A few hours later or in the middle of the night or early morning, pull or pick the bait out to remove the congregated snail party.

Thanks for the help. Do i have to prepare the romaine lettuce before if goes in or something?

Just rinse it off I guess.

You could always just give them to pet stores, I guess. Most of them tend to accept fish and snails.
