Every thing is going well with my gold fish since I bought the new tank. The alge problem is gone and the fish seem to have alot more energy. They are no longer swimming on a tilt. I now want to add more kinds of fish to the tank. The problem is that all the good fish stores are about a 2 hour drive from my place. I need to know how long fish can stay in the bags that the stores put them in? If I have a 2 hour drive and then keep them in the water in the bag in the tank for awhile is this going to be a problem? Do I need to risk getting a speeding ticket just to get them home?
They can survive two hours in the bag if it's double sealed and filled with oxygen. Keep the bag at room temperature, and they should make it. Remember, when they were shipped to the store, they were bagged up for probably one or two days from their origin!
Most fish could handle two hours or so in a bag. If your worried about that though, ask around, and you might find someone who lives nearer and would be willing to sell them, or even give the fish for free to you.
