Urgent, One of my 3 toed Box turtles just came out of hibernation and laid an egg only to have a (what I think is a prolapled vagina) What do I do it is Sunday and my vet in out of town I am currently keeping her moist with a heat/uva/uvb lamp. But it looks like ther is some slight tearing.

are there any emergency vets in the area? other than that you would probably want to keep the area moist with soakings. keep her on a sterile substrate like paper towels, you may even want to use wet paper towels so they dont dry out the tissue. then just get her to a vet asap.

I agree with Reptile Guy. I know for prolapses with male turtle parts, soaking in warm water can help relax the muscles and get it to go back in. For a female prolapse, it may or may not help. Turtles have just the one opening, the cloaca which is multi-purpose. It may be the end of the digestive tract that is prolapsed as a result of straining to lay eggs. If it's reproductive parts, they may go back in on their own. It's interesting that she would lay an egg right out of hibernation without breeding first. I hope you can get her to a vet who can fix her up. Hopefully it can be fixed without surgery. Let us know what happens!
