Title: Growth On Fantails Tail

Hello, could somebody help me please!

My son has a fantail goldfish 5 - 6 inches in length, and a few days ago a 'lump/growth' appeared at the end of his tail. The only way I can describe this is that it resembles a small piece of corn (maize/sweetcorn) and is of a similar colour (light yellow). It appears to be solid, not translucent.

My local pet shop seems to think it's some sort of fungus, but I'm not convinced that they're right. My instinct is that it's some sort of parasite/leech. Any advice or diagnosis would be much appreciated. Oh, I'm currently treating the fish and its long term buddy for constipation also.

Many thanks .......

It could by lymphocystis which is also called cauliflower disease or perhaps a cyst of some sort. It does not sound like fungus or a parasite. Can you post a photo?

Here are some photos and links on lympocystis which is a non-fatal virus that may go away on its own. There's no real treatment since it's a virus.
