Title: The Biosphere
Description: An electric bowl

Jayesh - March 24, 2006 08:08 PM (GMT)
I bought a electric bowl known as a biosphere. The packet says it is suitable for fantails, white clouds, comets, sarasas, goldfish and rosy reds without a mini heater and with a miniheater, ghost shrimp, betta, all livebearers, small barbs, all gouramis, all tetras, all corydoras, otocinclus, dwarf frogs, mystery snails and cherry shrimp. Is this true?

Unless it's 10-20+ gallons, it's not good enough for goldfish. I'm guessing the thing is a gallon? That's not really good enough for any fish except maybe a betta if heated. Most such claims are invalid for long term care of most fish and certainly most that they list.

The thing is 5 gallons. I asked the pet shop owner and he said white clouds will do OK. I have a betta in my other tank.

in general i do not think anything below 10 gallons is appropriate for anything except a betta. although a few species may be able to live in such a small tank, your main goal should be to get them to thrive, not just live.

Oh, it's bigger than I thought. Does it have filtration, heat, aeration? If not, you can add those things and then keep a few small fish in there like a few white clouds.

The betta, 2 white clouds, 1 dwarf frog and 1 mystery snail are now present in the biosphere. Oh, I got its name wrong it was BioOrb.
