I have 3 trapdoor snails in my 55gal planted aquarium and one of them has been hanging on the glass for a couple days, pretty much in the same spot, and now it has little orange balls hanging off of it. Also the balls have some kind of stringy looking substance holding them together and some of them have now disconnected from the snail and are sticking on the glass! what is this stuff?
The bad news - You don't have Japanese trapdoor snails.
The good news - You have a female apple snail and her eggs.
The "balls" are apple snail eggs.

Well that sucks because I ordered trapdoor snails from liveaquaria.com......hope they dont eat my plants!
Some species of snails eat plants and some don't. I hope you get the ones that don't! I've ordered half a dozen pond plants over the years that turned out to be a different species than I paid for but have not mail ordered many animals.
