Title: Lizard Questions?
Description: Does anyone know much about lizards?

I'm unsure if this is only for fish or not, was directed here via a link about lizards.
Anyway, hello. I would like to assemble an lizard aquarium for myself and my 5 year old daughter. I had envisioned an aquarium with 4 or 5 colorful lizards of different types just hanging around on branches, leaves and rock. After having returned from a pet store, I've learned that its a bad idea to put different species together (anoles, gecko's, dragon's, etc..).
My question is this, is there species of lizard that anyone know of, the afford a variety of colors, that I can put together in one aquarium? It will be a 29 gallon tank with rock up the back wall. I really don't want a tank full of the same lizard and would prefer a little variety.
Are there any types of lizards that anyone knows of that get along with eachother that could solve my challenge?
Thanks for any help you can provide.
Tom

Yes, you should keep just one species together, especially in just a 29 gallon tank. That size tank is too small for many lizard species. Your choices will be pretty slim - geckos, anoles, etc. Most other lizards grow too large for a 29 gallon, especially if you want half a dozen in there. There are some pretty geckos and anoles but to get variety in color, you'd have to mix species. I don't have personally experience with those reptiles so you should ask someone who does. Hopefully, a store employee will have some experience but half the time, they do not. Lizards, in general, are not really colorful but you can see what the store has. Remember that adults may not look like the babies do, sometimes being more colorful as they age and sometimes less colorful. American anoles can be green or brown so even in the same species, you might get some color variety. I wish I had more information to share. I hope things work out for you and the animals you get.

At the store i work in, most reptiles are kept in species specific habitats, but we do mix some things, right now we have captive bred juvenile leopard geckos with a leucistic leopard gecko, same species, but extremely different coloring.
other things that we mix are some frogs, such as asian greenbacks, dumpy's tree frog and chubby frogs are all in a rainforest type habitat together.

crested geckos come in a variety of colors and 4 or so would be okay in a 29. they are the same species and all have the same shape, but there is enough color variability to have different looking individuals. the best thing is they dont need a heat lamp and with the proper diet dont need UV light either, so the only light necessary is just to light the tank. they eat mainly prepared pastes, either a special crested gecko diet that comes in a powdered form that you mix with water, or baby food supplemented with a vitamin D3/calcium powder. if you would like more info just ask.
