;) i have a nice little pond in my backyard. we just bought this house and i have never had a pond before. so far i have noticed some wildlife that includes a huge bullfrog that i have named Boris, regular toads, tadpoles, i think some water bugs that turn into dragonflies...forgot the name of 'em..., and i have recently added some algea eater fish. i have some tropical vegitation and grassy vegitation around the pond area too. Boris hides somewhere during the day and only comes out at night for some croaking and swimming! he's pretty cool to observe and i think he realizes that we aren't going to harm him. we usually just walk out at night with a flashlight and see what he's up to. he needs a girlfiend!! ha! anyways i was wondering if this shallow pond would be ideal for any species of small turtles? can some one tell me if pics can be posted in this forum????? i don't know the measurements of the pond or gallons, but its not any deeper than 12 inches. it does have a waterfall. wish i could just post up some pics...please help me here...i live near houston, texas, usa and it gets hot and humid here. i imagine the pond temp will get pretty warm here soon.
What are those algae eaters? Normally turtles will eat dragonfly larvae so if you want them, try and remove the larvae. Yellow ear slider is a big turtle but may be suitable for your pond.
To post photos, you need to have your photos up on a web site. There are sites that post photos for free or sometimes you can send them to me. Then, once your photos have a URL (web site address), you can click on the IMG button that appears while you're typing a message and insert the URL.
There are few small (as adults) turtles, and the ones that are tend to be endangered species. Your pond may not be big enough for turtles but check out my page on turtle ponds at
