I have a small pond in which I have 1 bullfrog froglet, 4 metamorphing bullfrog tads, an eastern newt, and some rosy reds. Today I added some american toad tadpoles and all was well all day. However, tonight when I went to watch the pond i realized i couldn't find any of the toadpoles, untill i saw one half eaten on the bottom. The other 4 are nowhere to be found. I have a shipment of over 50 coming soon and I dont know what to do now. I thought toadpoles where poisonous and nothing bothers them. They did have little leg buds so they werent so young. I also found the bullfrogglet
on the deck hopping around. The pond is actually a kiddie pool on my deck. If I put rocks around it will the frogs know to hop back in when they hop out? The one on the deck seemed to have that bewildered look in his eye :P
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I would so love to have little toads around.

Your eastern newt could eat the tadpoles of the bullfrog. It could possibly have eaten the toad tadpoles but the poison has not taken effect yet. Is your newt suffering? Also this would be better in the amphibian section.
American toad tadpoles are only slightly toxic. Basically, they taste bad and if the bullfrog or newt ate one or two, he might feel sick to his stomach but probably wouldn't die from it. Some animals are hardly affected at all by the toad's mild toxins. There are other toads like the cane toad that are very toxic, so much that a dog can die if he eats one. It could have been the bullfrog or newt at fault or even a predator you didn't know was there. Since you found one half eaten, it was probably one of those two though. If you are going to add more, probably some will make it since a single baby bullfrog or newt can't eat that many and may not want to. Otherwise, you could keep the new tadpoles in a separate temporary pond to grow up in in piece (assuming the others don't walk over there). Frogs do wander, coming and going. You certainly do want to have ramps in and out of your kiddie pool so they can get in and out. Rocks will help. Bullfrogs grow large, and I'm afraid since you just have a small kiddie pool, one day he will hop off to find a larger pond. When the toad tadpoles morph, they usually leave in the night so you may not even see them. Some years, I didn't. Other years, the new toads would hang around the pond shallows for a few days. They are really, really tiny!
Possibly the bullfrog and the newt have been eating tadpoles!!!
