I have a newly made pond so far with eurasian water milfoil, equistem hyemale, elodea crispa, water hyacinth, duckweed and algae (of course). The water is so cloudy when I put a new pot of plants in, I overturn another pot. Therefore, there is a lot of floating soil in the pond. How do I get rid of it? Also I want to know where you can buy lotus in the UK.
A filter will remove the dirt if the filter material is fine enough. If there's no water movement, the dirt will settle over time until stirred up. The addition of a coagulant like Accuclear by Aquarium Pharmaceuticals (don't know if you can get it in the UK) will help clump the dirt and make it sink or go into the filter. Water changes will help if it's a lot of dirt. I'm in the US and don't know about UK sources for lotus.
There is also floating wood (from the soil) in the pond that does not sink!
I sometimes get some mulch in the pond after a heavy rain. It will sink over time but, if it's still floating, then net it out.
I don't have a net, and hardly any shops sell them. I also do not like bothering the duckweed, there is very little of it.
