Last year my koi layed larger orange eggs. This year they are smaller and clear. I wish I would have removed some from last year to see if some of the koi would have hatched and survive.
Also, Do the babes really need to be fed when they are in with algae? I have had koi survive on their own in the pond.
Thanks for your help.
The orange may have been from tiny particulates like dirt in the water adhering to the eggs. You didn't have any koi survive from past spawnings or just last year's?
Koi fry usually grow better in natural water with microorganisms and algae but koi fry do not need algae. I guess you're asking if you have to feed the fry. The answer is no if the pond is a balanced natural pond with natural microorganisms and algae. Plus, if you're feeding the adult fish, particles of their food will enter the food chain as well.
