Title: Keeping Bullfrogs In The Pond
Description: Frogs

Hi,
I recently got a 90 gallon pond, and put in two tadpoles. The Bullfrogs grew and quickly left my pond and headed to the creek that runs through my backyard. I went and got two more tadpoles and will probably have an over abundance some day, but I really want a frog to stay in my pond. Is there any chance this will happen with the fact I have a creek close by? I figure the tadpoles help with the algae control and I thought if they came as tadpoles at least one male would stay.
Anyone have any ideas?
Do you need to start feeding the frogs something specific?
Thanks, Deb

Frogs have a wanderlust. If they can hear water moving in the distance, it will really attract them. Even if the don't, they will still wander on rainy nights to see what they can find. This is how they spread. A 90 gallon pond is a bit small to be of interest to most bullfrogs. Green frogs might be more apt to stick around. Tadpoles eat some algae but a few won't make much difference. You can offer some live foods like mealworms, crickets, earthworms, etc. to the adult frogs if they are tame enough (don't hop away from you). That might entice them to stay around more often but they are still going to have a desire to wander off. They may also wander back though. My frogs come and go. Come to think of it, I think the bullfrogs have left my ponds this summer; and there aren't many adult green frogs either. Oh, now you made me miss them!
