[FONT=Arial][SIZE=7][COLOR=blue]i have a question for everyone... i had 2 baby toads. i have had them both for about a week. one was the size of a dime (maybe a penny) his name was Chubs and the other one was a little bigger (about the size of a nickel) his name is Pudge. this morning there was 2 (at 10am)... both hopping around but now- um... there is only one (at 10pm). and there is no way that they can jump out of the aquarium and there is no holes or anything. so did the fat one (Pudge) eat the little one (Chubs)?

Bullfrogs are notorious for eating smaller frogs, including their own kind. Toads don't normally do that. I would search the cage and around it for Chubs. If he's truly gone, and Pudge looks a little more Chubby, then I guess he must have ate him. He might do that if the little one was a lot smaller, and he was really hungry. What were you feeding them? Either way, I'm sorry.

thanks for the reply... yeah, they are definately not bullfrogs they are little american toads. i didn't think that Pudge ate Chubs but my boyfriend and my dad said that it was the only option. Pudge didn't look swollen or bloated and he wasn't acting lethargic he was hopping around alot actually. my boyfriend took everything out of the tank and we didn't see Chubs. we took the tank outside and took everything out and looked thoroughly through in the logs and rocks. we even looked through the pete moss piece by piece. but this morning he was sitting in the water like nothing ever happened. so i don't know where he was hiding but he's still there! i'm surprised that when we were in the garage looking for him that he didn't hopp away because we set everything on the ground after we "cleared it." and Chubs is about half the size of Pudge so he is a lot smaller. we feed them crickets in the tank and when we take it outside to clean it we put them in a little container with some flightless fruit flies. we buy about 15 crickets a day so they eat very well! why do you think they're names are Pudge and Chubs?? b/c they're fat!! :)

I'm glad he turned up! I didn't think the other toad would have eaten him. He showed up in the tank after you had sorted through it? He hides well I guess!

I caught a bunch of baby toads one day on my lanai. I found a big toad too, so I put it in the container with about 12 of the babies. On my way to let them go outside, I watched the "mother" toad (or so I thought), eat all of the babies in about 20 seconds. It was horrible. I never realized they would eat their own like this.

Yuck! You actually saw it huh? I've had many people say that they put a larger toad or frog with smaller ones and the little ones vanished. They didn't want to believe they could have been eaten. Sometimes the size difference isn't that much even.
