Title: Frogs In Barrel Pond?
Description: amphibians in barrels?

Is it possible to raise frogs, or keep a frog or two in a barrel pond? My 8 year old son is hot to have frogs in our yard. It is a well fenced in yard, so we would have to get a hold of frogs somehow. We also live in a climate where it freezes overnight sometimes in the winter, but the pond wouldn't freeze over-just a temporary am frost. He is incredibly into nature and animals, so I want to encourage his interest, but I don't want to set froggies up for certain death if they couldn't survive.
Thanks,
Julie

It really depends on the species. A native frog would be best, one that didn't need a lot of water. My frogs breed in tub ponds but have to overwinter in my bigger ponds. Since you say it's warmer there, that may not be a factor. The biggest problem you might have would be keeping the frogs from leaving. Even with a fence, they can often find a way out.
