Title: Snails Are Too Much Stress

ph is still high, now the water is a bit cloudy. aarghhhh. Just noticed that Big Guy mystery snail 'foot' isn't making solid contact on the glass anymore. I put in Aquasafe, Nitraban, and Stresszyme in the tank this morning. So why's it cloudy NOW??? It's not a total fog in there, but it looks like I haven't dusted the glass for awhile.

How big is the tank? Is the biofilter established or is this a new setup? It may be a bacterial bloom. I suggest doing 50% water changes every day or two for a short time. Add good bacteria as you did. Try to avoid adding chemicals; they can sometimes harm the snail or make it worse. What's nitraban?

Nitraban is in a Tetra product called EasyBalance. It's supposed to reduce the amount of times you have to change water. I did a 50%+ water change this morning. Took the hyacinth out, cat ate it. Then she upchucked it on the snail info I left printed out on the printer tray. I tested the tap water, all okay..put it in the tank, BOOM.....ph goes up, nitrite and nitrate goes into danger zone. I'm gong to slowly start taking out the bottom aquarium gravel, maybe making it a more sparse tank will help me see things. :ph43r:

Cats love to eat things they aren't supposed to!

It's strange that the water in the tank changes so much from the tap water. Certainly removing things will help narrow down the possibilities. Keep doing water changes and adding good bacteria to get the nitrogen cycle going so the nitrite goes down. Nitrate is only dangerous at super high levels. It's ammonia and nitrite that are toxic.

Checked the water again tonight, ph is down but the N's are still in the danger zone. Tommorrow I'm bringing in the 'big bag' from the pond and do all the tests in the single vials. If they're ANYWHERE near normal...the dipsticks are getting tossed. Wat'ers clear, and everybody looks active and hungry. Pond snails are busy laying eggs and the mysterys are finally getting big enough where I can tell the difference. You think of snails of just being stuck to the wall, it's so wild watching them float around or skim upside down on the surface. Now I just have to figure out how to sink the cucumber, I was thinking about jamming it in the plastic plant.

They used to sell holders for the cucumbers which is why I have a few of them. They stopped selling those. You can use plant weights perhaps to impale the cucumber. Or, just attach is to your fake plants, maybe with some plastic cable ties. If the cucumber floats, the snails should still be able to eat some of it but they're have to be acrobats!

We were watching the acrobats this morning. lol Do my hubby and I need a life? ;) There were a few snails bopping up and down and 2 skimming upside down on the surface. The small/baby snails don't seem to have a problem with anything, just worried about the big guy. Gotta go check out the pump. thanks.
