Title: My Friend's Question
Description: live bearing saltwater fish?

My friend asked me today if there are any live bearing saltwater fish? I have no idea and tried to google it. I did not have much luck. Freshwater fish info kept popping up. Are there any live bearers in the aquarium saltwater world and can anyone name a couple so I can let my friend know? Thanks.

You bet there are. Sharks are the most obvious. About half the species give birth to live young while the other half lay egg cases.

Another one I found are the group of fish called brotulas. Here's a web page:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brotula

Sea horse males carry eggs inside their pouches to give birth to live young. This is similar to female fish that carry eggs in their bodies that do not take any nourishment from her (not a true pregnancy) whereas some fish eggs growing in the mother do take nourishment.
