Hi, i was wondering if anyone can help me i have some neon tetras in my tank some have a fat belly which i belive to be the female, but how do i know if they are carrying any eggs, so i know when to put then into a breeding trap to lay the eggs. Thanks

Neon tetras are egg-laying fish. They do not go into a breeding trap or cage. A male must be present with the female when she spawns. They should have soft plants like java moss on which to lay the eggs and preferably no other fish to eat the eggs and later fry. Neon tetras are more difficult to get to spawn than most egg-laying fish. They require soft water with a pH of 6-6.5 or so. An egg-laden neon tetra would only be slighly enlarged in the abdomen. If huge, there is probably something else going on, most likely an internal bacterial infection. I have a list of reasons that a fish might be fat here:
