Title: Snail Shells

I've noticed some white stray-a-tions (*?) on some of the snail shells. Some look like they've been white-washed. Is that normal growing pains, like stress fractures or is there a vitamin/mineral problem? The smaller snails are eating the cucumber and algae tabs. Haven't seen the big guy go near either, so I've been putting in a pinch of goldfish flakes. How often do you feed these guys? aarrghhh. :ph43r:
....did another 50% water change, Big Guy was closed up on the bottom again, been about an hour so far. Turns out Big Guy is Big Girl, she laid eggs last nite. Hopefully she's just super resting.

The white stripes may indicate low calcium levels. Put in a cuttlebone for them to chew on (sold for caged birds) and maybe some oyster shells in a filter bag or something. A lot of whitening of the shells is not a good sign. My apple snail that I had in my tank would eat every few days or really whenever; I didn't pay much attention! Female apple snails may not eat much right before laying eggs (not enough room inside) but she should eat something soon.

I'm off to the store tomorrow, again, for cuttlebone and ammo lock. I've seperated the 2 big ones. The female is partially open, but hasnt' moved out of that position since last nite. The other is starting to move. The water is alittle bit cloudy after the last water change, but I'm taking that as good. Wish the water would hurry up and settle down.
