It's not a bite. It's a sting from venomous spines which are little hairs on their body. I still have a tiny bit of discoloration where they got me but it's almost gone.
Well, I really didn't know they would sting either!! Good to know.
There are hundreds of moth and butterfly species. Only a dozen or so moth caterpillars have venom. The saddleback is the most common around here, and they've got me a few times. They're gorgeous though which is a warning to stay away.
