Title: Can Small Pleco's Be In A Cichlid Tank?
Description: I may need an algae eater or pleco

I noticed some algae groing in my convict (cichlid) tank and am thinking about adding a plecop or some algae eaters only if they will not be harmed. Does anyone know if they would be ok with cichlids?

A lot of people buy plecos to put in cichlid tanks to eat algae. In some cases, it seems to work. A lot of the time though, the cichilds beat up the plecos despite the pleco's armor. Many a pleco has died this way. I don't think it's a good idea. Also, plecos come from South America and pretty soft water compared to African cichlid's hard water. Plecos are better suited to a more docile South American cichlid tank than with African cichlids. Convicts are South American but not particularly docile!
