Title: For Anyone Interested In Semi-terrestrial Frogs
Description: Pickerell frog - not straying

about a month ago, or more, i dropped a pickerel frog (those fast ones you find in the grasses near ponds and streams) i dropped it into a 20 gallon, somewhat tall fish tank full of water in my back yard and it immediately jumped out and got away and i couldnt find it. tonight, the second it became dark out i saw a frog jump 7 feet away from the tank in my drive way and head right toward in the general direction of the tank. this means that the frog intentionally stayed in the vicinity for 4-5 weeks, whereas it could have easily wandered off over to less exposed back yards, etc. the funny thing is that it could never get back into the tall fish tank so it must have been thinking that it was a small pool that might fill up eventually or something like that. i dont know, but since you've been getting into the details about nature and shit this might be pretty telling about a very odd behavior. i wonder if its fairly predictable, that they dont wander off or if this was an exception. maybe it wandered and couldnt find any other water source and returned (even repeatedly). i would imagine that if those frogs will remain near a 3 foot long fish tank as a considered water home source, then they would remain near my pond. there's no way this was coincidental, given the time period, distance, and lack of cover that makes the tank area unsuitable for cover. :D

I've found pickerel frogs spend quite a bit of time near water (not as much as bullfrogs or green frogs though). The commonly found frogs hoping in grass are leopard frogs which only come to water to lay eggs, drink water, etc.

I agree. Moreover, a small 20 gallon fish tank (too tall for the frog to jump into) is so minimal that i would not have anticipated that the pickerell frog would have remained near it for a month, rather then just wander off to look for a real water source. i released it again - maybe it will stay near the tank, still.
