I was wondering if putting a calcium supplement tablet in the fish bowl where my snail lives is OK. Will it harm her? I did it already and she seemed to be more active. Maybe it's my imagination. But I change the water everyday so it didn't stay in there long.
My snail had a hole in its shell when I bought her. I didn't notice it til I got home. The water I use for her bowl is from an underground stream. We have a well. I don't know how hard that water is. Is there a test?
It depends on what's in the pill. If it's made for people to eat, it's probably more than just calcium. What's in the ingredients? What form of calcium is it? It will say calcium something on the label. The other ingredients may or may not be safe.
I suggest adding crushed oyster shells (from a farm feed store), crushed coral (used for marine tanks), or cuttlebone (sold for pet birds) to raise the calcium levels. You can also add various commercial concoctions meant to raise calcium (but they may also have other things in them).
They sell a test kit for water hardness which you should get to see how hard your water is. Most well water seems to be hard but our well water is super soft so it could be either way.
I hope your snail heals!
