Hello.
I am trying to keep an African Dwarf Frog, but I’m having no success so far.
My set up is a 5-gallon aquarium with a filter and heater that keeps the water at about 78 degrees. I remove chlorine from the water with a product called “Start Right” with Allantoin. The rest of the aquarium is pretty basic; I have a gravel substrate with three live plants and some river rocks. I feed the dwarf frogs freeze-dried bloodworms, and I’ve seen them eat them happily. I have a female betta and a snail in the tank as well.
The problem is that I’ve tried, unsuccessfully, to keep three ADFs (all at different times). They seem to die within a few weeks of me getting then and I can not think of a single reason why. I’ve never seen aggression between the frogs and the betta, and I find it odd that the snail and betta flourish while the frogs can’t seem to live.
Any ideas of why I am coming up short? I would like to try to keep one again, but only if I have some idea of why I am failing.
Thanks!
Jeremy
It seems like you're doing everything right that you've mentioned. I assume you also have been checking your water quality? If the other animals aren't bothering the frog, the water is good, and the frog is definitely eating, I'm not sure either what could be wrong. Do the frogs show any symptoms before dying? I feed my ADF's with live blackworms. Sometimes we never know why animals die. It may have been something preventable but not always. I suggest weekly 50% water changes and adding aquarium salt at a tablespoon per 5 gallons to deter bacteria and fungus which will at the very least help the betta. I wish you better success.
Check for ammonia. Many animals can tolerate some low levels but ADFs can easily be killed by even trace amounts. If the frogs turn pale then that is usually a sign of ammonia.
is the place were you purchased them reliable? the frogs could have come sick =[, many pet stores dont treat they're pets properly  . Other then that i don't know
