They tend to live 2 to 4 years but some live 5 or 6 years. By the time they are sold at the pet store, most male bettas are already 8-12 months old. So, your betta would be considered old but not unique just yet.

he is starting to slow down alot maybe old age not sure but he lives right here next to my computer and watches me i pet him also hes pretty cool!! but getting old i guess!!

you pet him? normally when you put your hand in the tank they swim away as fast as they can. i had like 3 betta fish one lived for like 3 years and was about 3" long and the other ones only lived for about 3 months each so i gess it depends on the fish how big they get and whether they let you pet them of not.

My Male Blue Crowntail i have had since 1999. He lives in a 2 gallon tank equipped with a nano filter. He lives with 4 neon tetras. I dont know weather the tank haveing a filter has anything to do with him living so long or what. Oh yea just a tip that seems to make my Betta very happy. Every time we have Steak for dinner i will cut a teany weany piece (RAW) or 3 for him. Sometimes ground beef too. :P

Thats really kool !! I remember Val saying that she had a blue one named Goliath which she said lived for 8 years...
We have been throo a few Betta's last year but only because I accidently sucked them up in the syphon hose when cleaning the tank & there is no nice way of getting them out, needless to say I havn't been using the syphon hose so have managed to keep one for probably the past 6 months or more without killing it... He lives with a Kuhli Loach & a massive snail - his tank is over a ft long so I think he's pretty happy in there... He is Cambodian & really the prettiest Fighter I've ever seen - he has a white body with a blue fleck in the middle & a deep red head, his fins are really long with blue, red & white flecks...
I'll put a photo on next post !!!

I'm sorry about the "little man." I assume you mean he was floating upside down and not swimming (in which case he would have been alive). Three years is longer than most people can keep their bettas alive.
