Title: Dead Toad Scare: Lazerus?

We bought an African bouncing toad last week, and today when I came home from work, I found him floating limply face down in his water dish, though he wasn't really floating, he was tottally submersed. I was really sure he was dead, and wondered what I might have done to cause it.

Well, when I moved his cage a little to get a closer look he poked his head up and sat up!

Did my toad accidently fall asleep in his water dish?? Is this normal toad behavior to hang out underwater?

I'm not familiar with that species. Many frogs and toads can hang out on the water with or without their heads under. I don't know if that's normally for that species or not. It scares me when my lizard and turtle go to sleep under water!

Thanks. I don't know what that has to do with African bouncing toads except the hedgehogs were also from Africa. I've lost so many animals that I have to bounce back right away to care for the remainder. The one loss that will never stop hurting was my first cat, Bootsy; it's been 10.5 years.
