Not sure where this question should have gone..but anyway. My last hyacinth that I put in my betta tank has brown edges on it's leaves. The water is staying stagnant clear. Should I put in a bubbler, does it need fertilizer? Have no clue how to raise a water plant. Any suggestions?
What kind of lighting does the plant have? Sunlight? What is the temperature? Water hyacinth need temperatures over 70 degrees F, closer to 80. They need lots of light. I can't keep them alive indoors even with lighting. Leftover fish food and fish waste should be enough to feed just one hyacinth but if by itself, a little fertilizer should help. If it's not bright or warm enough, fertilizer can just make things worse.
What is stagnant clear? Stagnant water is usually hazy. Any water that just sits and doesn't move or get changed is going to stagnate. It's better for the plant and a betta (if there's one in there) to have some water movement from an air stone or small filter.
Stagnant clear is that the water is totally still, and totally clear. The betta tank light is on for about 15 hours, not sure of the temp. Roots look good, water level keeps slowly going down and the plant itself is not mushy or droopy. Just has brown edges and I noticed today some browning on the bottom side of the sponge areas that's not touching the water. There's no fish in the tank ( I'm having a hard enough time with the other tank with fish. lol )
