Title: Plant Pond Edging
Description: wanderingjew
wayne r - December 24, 2006 01:57 AM (GMT)

Wanderingjew is one of my favorite pond edgings. I tried it for the first time three years ago in between the limestone rocks, and it did so well ,I over winter it in the house and replant it outside in the spring. It adds to the tropical look of the pond.
I know this is not a new plant to youall ,but how many like myself never thought of bringing this house plant outside for a summer vacation.
Just a suggestion for next spring. What is your favorite plant for around or in the pond.

I couldn't pick a favorite plant! I can't see this photo either. I'll try to remember to check to see if I can see them at work when I go back 12/27.

I checked the photo at work and still can't see it.

Hi wayne r
What a great idea putting wanderingjew over the rocks around the pond.I would have never thought of that.I saw a pond that had ground morning glories around it and it was beautiful.I like lots of color in my gardens and am always looking for new ideas.
Thanks swampview

Its great for that corner of the pond that doesn't get much sun. You may be suprised at how fast it grows in the right conditions.

I will make myself a note in my gardening plans to put in some wanderingjew this summer. I am just starting to get my seed books now and will be placing an order in Feb. If you have any ideas on perennials that might be nice around the pond and hang over the edge I would love to hear about them.
Thanks swampview

One plant that I think is really neat is an annual that I grow from seed every year, is castor bean. Are you familiar with it? I got mine to 15 foot tall in one season.
swampview - January 20, 2007 06:09 PM (GMT)
Hi wayne r
Yes I am familiar with the castor bean.I have never planted it but it would be a great back ground for the gardens.I will add that to my list of plants for this summer along with the wonderingjew for the pond edging.
Thanks for the idea and any more ideas are always welcome.
You can never have enough flowers around the pond.

If you like I could mail you seeds from last years crop? I have hundreds and they will just go to waste. I grow about 5 plants every year.

I would really appreciate that and I will PM you with my address.I will also have lots of flower seeds that I can send you but it will take me awhile before I can do that.If you are looking for any special wetland plants I can also provide that for you.I just go to the swamp and get all the pond lillies, marsh marigolds, bulrushes and ornamental grasses that I want.Do you plant any marigolds in your gardens?I buy the seed by the thousands and always have leftovers.I am not a big fan of them but they do go well into the fall for extra colour and they are great for mass planting.I also plant them around my veg gardens.Do you plant a veg garden?
I will have lot of perennials this summer that will have to be divided.I will keep you informed and you can let me know if you want any.
Love trading plants

The perennials sound great. Maybe you would be interested in trading for golden orfes. I have got lots looking for a good home.
No I don't have a veg garden. My whole property is bush. ( maple, oak, ash, beech)
swampview - January 21, 2007 04:21 PM (GMT)
Hi wayne
That sounds perfect to me.
Maybe you would like some Periwinkle and Goutweed for your bush. They will both spread indefinitly.I love it at the edge of the bush.I will also send some day lillies.I have severall colors because they are one of my favorites.I could go on and on with the perennials.I have so many different plants. All sizes and colours. Some for sun and some for shade.
With all that property you should have a veg garden.Nothing like walking out to the garden and picking your own veggies. Can't get any fresher than that and no chemicals.
The golden orfes would have a good home.

Anything would be appeciated if it is no trouble to you. Periwinkel I have lots of but am unfamiliar with goutweed.
I would love to see my orfes in your pond. I have got to warn you thou they are addictive. There is a very good chance that you will be the only one in your area with them.

As much as I would like any bulbs, please don't go to much expence mailing them. I am sure it would be expencive for bulbs. Besides you would hafe to come down to get the orfes some time anyway if that is possible.
swampview - January 28, 2007 03:51 PM (GMT)
Hi wayne
I really do hope it will be possible for me to come down this summer and see your pond. When I come I will make sure I bring plants and bulbs for you.I will still send the seeds in the mail as soon as possible.

Hi Wayne
I haven't forgotten about the seeds.

Look forward to getting them swampview.
I think trading seeds and plants with friends is so much better then buying them, because now each flower in the garden has its own special story and memory.

I will start any seeds the 1st of May cause I don't have enought light in doors to keep most plant going for very long after germination.
You got me thinking thought about the morning glories. I purchased some seeds of the jumbo vatiety which has a vine 12ft long. I can see them now on the pergola in blues and lavender. Thanks for the suggestion.
Hope you guys can get down to get some orfes this summer. Apparently we are on the garden tour this June 23rd. The organizers must have been hardup for places to show.haha.
Robyn - March 18, 2007 12:36 AM (GMT)
Are you kidding? Your pond sounds great! You have spawning orfe which is special and all those fancy tropical plants. I wish I could go on the tour!
swampview - March 18, 2007 02:11 PM (GMT)
Hi wayne
I just love morning glories.Last year I planted Crimson Rambler morning glory. It is a deep crimson-red with a white throat.
Another idea would be Sweet Pea. It is a mixture of colours and stays open all day, unlike the morning glory. It is only half as tall but the flowers are very fragrant.
That is so exciting about the garden tour.Congrats.You have worked very hard on your pond and gardens.
I will try to get there this summer.

Have you ever let the climing morning glory grow along the ground as pond edging in a dry area?I was woundering how they would do on the ground.
And I will try sweetpea.

Hi wayne
That is a very good question. I would really like to know the answer.
