Title: Black Moor
Description: Changing color, is it a disease?

Hi there,

I've read that black moors can change color over time as they age, but the area in which my moor is changing color is worrying me. I've had the two fish for about two years now, and about a month ago I transfered them to this larger tank (20 gallons). Recently my moor has developed a rust orange coloration around his "nostrils" and eyes. He still is active, eats well, and is very social. I'd say he wasn't always the most graceful fish, and wonder if he is bumping against new tank decorations. Is this possibly the beginnings of a disease? Or are these markings ok? Thanks in advance!

It sounds like a normal sort of color change for a black moor. I once had a blue oranda that was all blue. Years later, he turned half white with bronze splotches over the blue! Sounds like both our fish weren't genetically "pure." If the rust area looks normal aside from the color change, it's probably just a color change. Any other symptoms? A photo would help if you can put one up.
